Senior Credit Risk Manager

London – Hybrid - 3 days a week in central London office

Competitive Base ( £60K - £80K depending on experience) + Equity

My client is a scale up SME lender launched in the UK since 2021 – Being backed by an institutional funder they have recently closed £60M funding round and set to double size of lending book in 2026

Due to the bespoke in house tech they are able to offer a flexible funding solution to SME business with focus on the SME being in control of how and when they spend it…

We are looking for a skilled and analytical Credit Risk Lead who is passionate about assessing financial risk, building a scalable & streamlined underwriting process, and actively involved in portfolio monitoring to ensure the ongoing health and performance of credit exposures.

You will be responsible for building and overseeing the credit underwriting process and ongoing portfolio risk management and reporting, ensuring to maintain a healthy portfolio while delivering the best possible service to our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hold sign of mandate & authorise your own and more junior member's of staff credit cases
  • Work closely with sales & marketing to ensure they are aware of the lending appetite & deals we are looking to attract
  • Develop credit risk policies and procedures, ensuring they align with market best practices and market development
  • Monitor and manage the risk associated with our SME lending portfolio – allowing us to remain competitive & protected around economic change
  • Stay updated on the latest trends in the SME finance landscape to enhance our risk models and ensure we remain competitive.
  • Work with the tech team to build credit decisioning models

Qualifications/Required Skills:

● Minimum of 5 years of experience in credit risk management, ideally within the fintech, SME finance or financial services industry

● Strong ability to analyse financial statements, credit reports, and market trends to make informed decisions – Held credit mandate of min £500K in an unsecured lender

● Need to be able to build and manage a credit portfolio management framework that scales to future proof our business – Prior experience working in a scale up environment

● Deep understanding of B2B lending and the UK SME lending market and its associated risks

● Curiosity and the ability to make sound judgement calls in fast-paced, high-pressure situations while balancing risk and reward.

● Comfortable using credit risk assessment tools, open-banking data, and financial modelling software. Preferred to have SQL / Python experience
