Job Description

Job Title: Internal Assurance and Regulation Manager - Submarines

Working Pattern: Full-time, flexible working

Working location: Derby/Hybrid

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join the Internal Regulation team at our Raynesway site in Derby. You will provide independent assurance, challenge, and specialist advice across our two nuclear licensed sites in support of various aspects of safety, security, and environmental compliance.

Why Rolls-Royce?

Rolls-Royce is one of the most enduring and iconic brands in the world and has been at the forefront of innovation for over a century. We design, build and service systems that provide critical power to customers where safety and reliability are paramount.

We are proud to be a force for progress, powering, protecting and connecting people everywhere.

We want to ensure that the excellence and ingenuity that has shaped our history continues into our future and we need people like you to come and join us on this journey.

Our Submarines business is responsible for the design, manufacture, supply and through-life support of nuclear propulsion-related products and systems in support of the Royal Navy's submarine fleet. As the centre of this, the Raynesway site is embarking upon a significant programme of regeneration to meet future demand – providing excellent opportunities to develop your expertise and to contribute to the successful future of the Submarines business.

We'll provide an environment of caring and belonging where you can be yourself. An inclusive, innovative culture that invests in you, gives you access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities where you can grow your career and make a difference.

What we offer

We offer excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location.  It's a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement.  As a minimum we're all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you will be doing

In this unique role you will be directly accountable to the Head of Internal Regulation and will be part of a small team responsible for independent oversight of site activities, which will include:

  • Conducting observations, interventions and assessments of business activities and processes to evaluate compliance and risk.
  • Challenging processes, decision-making and behaviours at all levels of the organisation.
  • Advising on regulatory permissioning, internal hold-points and/or readiness reviews for changes or activities that have a significant safety or security impact.
  • Providing a source of independent specialist advice and guidance on all matters associated with their area of subject matter expertise to the wider business in support of its decision-making, interpretation of legal requirements, regulatory compliance, and relevant good practice.
  • Contributing to the establishment and maintenance of a collaborative working relationship with key external regulators assigned to the licensed sites.

Who we're looking for:

At Rolls-Royce we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. These principles form the behaviours that guide us and are an essential component of our assessment process. They are the fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.

To be successful in this role you will need to have:

  • A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline (e.g., Safety, Engineering, Science, Mathematics, Environmental Management, Security Management or CPNI qualifications).
  • Experience of working on a nuclear licensed site.
  • Experience of developing, planning, and undertaking oversight and assurance assessment activities and reporting outcomes both verbally and written.
  • A detailed understanding of the nuclear regulatory requirements and expectations for a nuclear licensed site as well as general awareness of relevant UK legislation, industry good practice and regulatory guidance relevant to safety, environment, and security.

We are an equal opportunities employer. We're committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives which are crucial to innovation and problem solving. We believe the more diverse perspectives we have, the more successful we'll be. By building a culture of caring and belonging, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.

You can learn more about our global Inclusion strategy at Our people | Rolls-Royce
