B.I.T.T. Services are excited to be growing our small team of enthusiastic and experienced Specialist Mentors. This is a rewarding and flexible role, suitable for professionals from Counselling, Psychotherapy, Psychology or related Mental Health disciplines, who are registered with a Professional Body (e.g. BABCP, BACP, BPS, HCPC, UKCP).

The role of a Specialist Mentor (Mental Health) is to work 1-to-1 with university students, empowering them to achieve their full potential. This involves identifying each student's specific barriers to learning due to their mental health condition, and providing strategies, advice and wellbeing support to help students to overcome those barriers.

Examples of areas of support include coping with stress and anxiety, dealing with concentration and motivational difficulties, timetabling and managing a busy workload, building confidence, goal setting and achieving a work-life balance.

You will be employed on a freelance basis. The work is flexible, enabling you to set your own hours. We would ask you to commit to a minimum of 10 hours of availability each week.

To be successful in the role, you will need to:

-Build rapport with a diverse range of students

-Encourage the student to identify and reflect on their own barriers, and teach strategies to help mitigate those barriers

-Use coaching and mentoring skills to offer support

-Provide non-judgmental and empathetic listening support, whilst taking a solution-focused approach

-Ensure the confidentiality of students

-Have excellent time management skills

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

-Membership with a relevant Professional Body (e.g. BABCP, BACP, BPS, HCPC, UKCP).

-Coaching, mentoring and counselling skills

-Experience of working with adults in educational or therapeutic settings

-Experience of working in a supportive role with adults with mental health conditions

-Knowledge of barriers to learning in higher education for adults with mental health conditions

-Knowledge of stressors in the higher education environment

-Working knowledge of different mental health conditions

-Ability to maintain professional boundaries

-Ability to maintain student confidentiality and data protection

-Ability to build rapport with adults from diverse backgrounds

DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

-Experience of providing academic mentoring or learning support

-Understanding of executive functions and how they impact learning and behaviour

-Working experience of neurodiversity (e.g. Autism, ADHD)
