Company Description

The Crossness Engines Trust, a registered charity, was established in 1987 to restore the Crossness Pumping Station, a unique part of Britain's industrial heritage and a notable example of Victorian engineering. The Beam Engine House, a Grade 1 Listed Industrial Building, houses four of the largest rotative beam engines in the world, adorned with spectacular ornamental Victorian cast ironwork. The Crossness Pumping Station, designed by Sir Joseph Bazalgette, formed part of Victorian London's main sewerage system and was officially opened by the Prince of Wales in 1865. Much of the restoration work has been conducted by a dedicated, unpaid volunteer workforce.
