Vanguardia, a Buro Happold Company is looking for a knowledgeable and enthusiastic production video and lighting systems designer to join their multi-disciplinary practice. Experience in Disguise Designer, Capture or other pre-visualisation or render workflows are preferable.
The AV team is responsible for developing high-quality audio-visual systems design for many large-scale projects based across the globe.
Due to an increased demand for our services the team is seeking additional support to deliver high quality, high-value solutions to clients based in the UK and abroad.
The successful candidate will be responsible for audio-visual systems design on a range of challenging projects. You will work within our audio-visual and acoustics group and with other disciplines, such as Technology, Smart Buildings, MEP as well as working directly with architects, clients, end-users and contractors.
You will be focused on audio-visual systems, the role will also require knowledge and experience of production video and lighting, sound systems, displays and control systems typically found in AV installations.
The role will include the the design of audio visual systems and will include preparation and coordination of audio-visual design advice for the development of projects across a broad range of market sectors.

The role will typically encompass (although not restricted to) the design and implementation of the following core AV systems:
- Production video
- Projection mapping
- Sound systems
- Displays, including large format LED screens
- IPTV/Digital signage
- Production lighting
- Presentation systems
- AV control room systems
- Video production systems
- Integrated audio solutions
- Broadcast systems
- Room control/room booking systems
Working as part of the audio-visual and acoustics team the successful candidate will be performing tasks as directed by the AV Team Manager. These will include but not be limited to:
- Understanding the Client AV requirements and production of a Client brief
- AV design process both independently and in line with RIBA design stages
- Design of AV systems and AV infrastructure
- AV system budgets and cost estimates
- Production of "Information for Construction" and tender packages
- Project coordination with the client team
- Maintain market knowledge of industry-leading technologies
- Ongoing development of our design tools including Revit.
In addition to the designer's role, you will be expected to support the team and practice's operations by:
- Attending group and team meetings
- Submitting weekly timesheets and monitoring project progress against milestone and financial targets
- Sharing your knowledge and experiences with others through events and presentations (e.g. BH University, CPD's)
- Updating the intranet, wikis and other sites with technical information
- Developing your personal skills and supporting others' development
- Attending trade exhibitions and training courses.

Key Technical Skills required:
We understand that individuals come from a range of backgrounds and we are more concerned with the right fit for our team than meeting every single one of these experience areas. Demonstration of a range of the following skills and experience is preferable for the role:
- Experience in Disguise Designer
- Experience in lighting software such as Capture
- Knowledge and expertise in 3D modelling and UV maps
- Schematic design of video and audio systems
- Understanding of IP network infrastructure requirements (IP, LAN, WAN, WAP)
- Architectural studies such as, sightlines, structural support, space planning, cableways, power and cooling
- Discussions and negotiations with manufacturers and suppliers
- Proficient CAD experience, preferably in Revit/Rhino
- Attention to detail and clear communication skills
- Professional and positive attitude
- Desire to explore new possibilities and unique solutions
We require an audio-visual specialist with at least 4 years of relevant experience in the design and implementation of audio-visual systems.
The ideal candidate would be educated to degree level.
