School: OMG Education Independent School

Location: 85 Commercial Street, E1 6BG

Start Date: 12 Jan 2026

Reports to: Deputy Headteacher / Headteacher

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm

Contract: Term-Time

Pay Rate: £26,000 - £30,000 Per Annum (Pro rata) (dependent on experience and qualifications)

About Us: OMG Education is a creative and trauma-informed Independent Alternative Provision School for 11–18-year-olds who are disengaged from mainstream education. We focus on personalised education, mentoring, and vocational pathways – supporting young people with SEMH needs, SEND, and those at risk of exclusion. Our mission is to help every young person develop the tools to succeed in education, work, and life.

About the Role: The Behaviour and Family Liaison Officer is a key member of the pastoral team, responsible for leading the school's behaviour, attendance, and welfare strategies. You will champion trauma-informed and restorative practices, provide 1:1 support to learners with complex needs, and work closely with families, staff, and external agencies to promote a positive and inclusive school culture.

As part of your role, you will also be required to teach a subject of your choice, maintain a strong connection with learners, parents, carers and model positive behaviour and classroom management.

In addition, you will act as a key contact for families and carers—building strong relationships, supporting the welfare, reintegration and safeguarding, and ensuring the home-school connection strengthens student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Behaviour Leadership

  • Lead on the implementation and daily management of the school's behaviour policy
  • Provide targeted support and intervention to students presenting with challenging behaviour or SEMH needs
  • Lead restorative conversations, conflict resolution, and reparation sessions
  • Maintain and manage positive and negative behaviour points daily
  • Maintain and analyse behaviour logs and incident records to track progress and patterns

Welfare & Attendance

  • Monitor attendance and punctuality daily; follow up on absences and support reintegration
  • Support the DSL team with safeguarding referrals and welfare concerns
  • Liaise with families and outside professionals to build wrap-around support for learners
  • Coordinate home visits and welfare checks where required

Family Liaison & Multi-Agency Work

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with parents and carers
  • Act as the main point of contact for family engagement and support
  • Attend family meetings, EHCP reviews, and act as a representative in multi-agency forums (TAF, CIN, CP)
  • Support families in navigating services such as CAMHS, housing, or youth offending teams
  • Lead reintegration planning between school and home following absence, exclusion, or crisis

Pastoral & SEMH Support

  • Offer 1:1 mentoring and SEMH coaching to high-needs learners
  • Contribute to personalised support plans, risk assessments, and behaviour support plans
  • Support learners in crisis and create calm-down/regulated environments for dysregulated students
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews and input into multi-agency meetings (TAC, TAF, CIN, etc.)

Teaching and Role Modelling

  • Teach a subject of your choice, demonstrating effective classroom management and engagement
  • Promote high expectations through classroom delivery, presence, and relationships
  • Model a calm, professional, and reflective approach to conflict and behaviour

Leadership & Safeguarding

  • Attend SLT and pastoral briefings; contribute to school-wide planning
  • Deputise for the DSL when required (Level 3 safeguarding training provided)
  • Contribute to Ofsted preparation, staff training, and policy development

This job description is not exhaustive, and the postholder may be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the role as reasonably directed by leadership.

  • Experience in youth work, AP, PRU, SEMH, or pastoral education
  • Strong knowledge of behaviour management and trauma-informed practice

  • Excellent communication and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to work flexibly and remain calm under pressure
