Role Summary

We are working with a reputable and forward-thinking accountancy practice seeking a motivated Accounts Assistant / Semi Senior to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop strong technical accounting skills, gain hands-on experience across a variety of client work, and progress through their qualifications with full support.

The role offers significant exposure to statutory accounts preparation, personal and corporation tax, bookkeeping, payroll/CIS, and working with farming & estates clients alongside a broader general practice portfolio. You will also develop confidence using key systems including Karbon, Xero, Digita and common bookkeeping apps.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare sole trader, complex partnership, and limited company accounts
  • Produce accurate trial balances, lead schedules, backing documents and executive summaries.
  • Use Digita Accounts Preparation to generate accounts and draft tax computations.
  • Extract financial information and reports from client records.
  • Build in-depth knowledge of Xero and commonly used bookkeeping/VAT applications.
  • Gain further experience in Payroll and CIS, including common technical issues.
  • Input figures into Digita Personal Tax and Corporation Tax for simple clients ahead of manager review.
  • Manage Companies House and HMRC filing responsibilities for your assigned clients.

Desirable Experience

  • AAT qualified or studying or planning to study or studying ACCA
  • Some experience preparing accounts within a UK accountancy practice
  • Familiarity with Xero, Digita, or similar systems
  • Strong organisational skills and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
