2nd Chef - Quality Care Home - Swanley Area, Kent - £36-38k - 40 hour contract

In our role, we believe that our residents deserve something special We're seeking a 2nd Chef to help us achieve these goals.

As 2nd chef, you'll play a vital role in preparing meals tailored to the dietary needs and preferences of the residents. Ensuring every dish is made with love, supporting the health and happiness of residents. Working with the Head Chef on developing menu's that change regularly this position will lead teams as well as working under the Head Chef, providing key skills in making afternoon teas, celebrations as well during the day to day running of the home.

What you'll be doing

• You'll be supporting the head chef in the planning and provision of high-quality meals that meet the nutritional and dietary requirements of our residents.
• Plan, prepare, and serve balanced meals that meet dietary requirements.
• Cater to individual preferences and specific medical needs, such as allergies or soft diets.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen.
• Collaborate with the care team to ensure meal times are enjoyable and fulfilling.
• To deputise for head chef during periods of absence and maintain high quality food offer at all times

Could you be part of the team?

About You:

• Proven experience as a chef, ideally in a care or similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
• Committed to customer care and first-class service provision
• A recognised and appropriate qualification in food preparation/cooking, at least to NVQ level 2
• Basic certificate in Food hygiene.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety COSHH regulations
• Empathy and a desire to make a difference to the lives of our residents
• Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and on own initiative in a fast-paced environment

Duties

• Assist the Head Chef in overseeing kitchen operations and managing food production.

• Prepare and cook high-quality dishes according to established recipes and standards.
• Maintain strict adherence to food safety regulations and hygiene practices.
• Help develop new menu items and seasonal offerings that reflect current culinary trends.
• Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed.
• Train new kitchen staff on proper cooking techniques, equipment usage, and safety protocols.
• Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure timely service and guest satisfaction.
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area at all times.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a 2nd Chef or in a similar role within a restaurant or hospitality environment.
• Strong culinary skills with a solid understanding of food production techniques.
• Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in the kitchen.
• Excellent leadership abilities with experience supervising kitchen staff.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
• Passion for cooking and creativity in developing new dishes.
• Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends.
