About The Role
National Grid Interconnectors is at the heart of UK's transition to our net zero energy future. We operate a number of HVDC Interconnectors that connect the UK's energy system to some of our closest neighbours, allowing energy to be imported to and exported from the UK.
As well as already owning a portfolio of HVDC Interconnectors, we're working on developing new projects to ensure that we are able to meet the UK's future demands for greener energy solutions.
We are currently recruiting for a
IFA2 Operations Site Manager
based at our IFA2 Interconnector in Fareham. As Site Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the IFA2 interconnector. You'll lead the UK site team and oversee all operational activities, from routine maintenance to emergency response, driving asset performance and commercial value. Working collaboratively with internal teams and international partners, you'll shape and deliver asset strategies that maximise availability and long-term sustainability. This is a leadership role where technical expertise meets strategic thinking—your decisions will directly impact the resilience of this critical energy link.
The role is based onsite fulltime at Fareham so please note you must be able to drive with a full UK licence to be considered for the role.
What You'll Do
- Lead and Inspire: Build and manage a high-performing team of operational engineers and contractors, fostering a culture of safety, excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Operational Excellence: Ensure all site activities—from maintenance to outage planning—are delivered on time, to quality standards, and in compliance with SHE requirements.
- Strategic Asset Management: Develop and implement asset strategies that balance cost, reliability, and future revenue streams, securing long-term value for the business.
- Risk & Compliance: Maintain robust operational and safety systems, ensuring regulatory compliance and mitigating operational risks.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the asset in technical forums, maintain strong relationships with partners, and engage with local communities and key stakeholders.
- Industry Leadership: Stay ahead of HVDC technology developments and operational best practices, applying insights to enhance performance and reliability
What You'll Need
- Proven ability to lead operational teams and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
- Strong decision-making skills under pressure, with a track record of delivering results in challenging environments.
- In-depth knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation and CDM regulations.
- Experience managing diverse workforces and delivering complex projects.
- Familiarity with operational technology systems, including control, protection, and monitoring systems.
- HNC (or equivalent) in an Engineering discipline, or significant relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing teams in an operational setting
- Full UK driving licence
- Experience in high-voltage environments.
- SHE qualifications (IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent)
What you'll get
A competitive salary between
£66,000 - £80,000 per annum–
dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
