Principal Environmental Engineer - Emissions Trading Scheme

About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Environmental Engineer with expertise in EU/UK Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) compliance to join a growing Environment and ESG team. This role involves managing permit compliance for operational industrial sites, preparing permit applications for new developments, and leading projects focused on ETS compliance. The position offers the opportunity to work on complex regulatory frameworks while supporting sustainability initiatives and client compliance objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead ETS compliance projects and ensure ongoing adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Manage permit compliance for operating industrial sites and prepare applications for new developments.
  • Conduct studies, assessments, and provide technical guidance on emissions-related matters.
  • Identify decarbonisation opportunities and recommend practical solutions.
  • Review engineering documentation and ensure compliance with relevant environmental legislation.
  • Interact with clients to provide technical advice and regulatory support.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure high-quality project delivery.
  • Support annual ETS compliance reporting and audits.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Relevant university degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Substantial experience in environmental engineering with a focus on ETS compliance.
  • Strong understanding of industrial emissions legislation in the UK and EU.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and ability to apply innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience engaging with clients and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
