Squadron Energy is Australia's leading renewable energy company that develops, operates and owns renewable energy assets in Australia. With proven experience and expertise across the project lifecycle, we work with local communities and our customers to lead the transition to Australia's clean energy future.
We are 100% Australian owned and have 1.1 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy in operation and 900MW under construction.
Why work with us?
Our goal is to improve the environment for current and future generations by leading Australia's transition to renewable energy. Our people are driven by their passion to make a meaningful difference in the world, to their families and friends, and to themselves.
Though we are united by this common goal, we view the tremendous diversity in our team's cultural, personal, and professional backgrounds as one of our greatest assets. This sense of camaraderie and cross-disciplinary expertise spurs drive and commitment to the growth of our business.
About the Role
Join Squadron Energy as a Project Engineer – Stay in Business (SIB) and play a pivotal role in delivering sustaining capital projects that maintain, upgrade, and enhance our renewable energy and gas firming assets. Reporting to the SIB Project Manager, you'll work across the full project lifecycle—from concept to close—ensuring asset reliability, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory and environmental standards.
This is a generalist engineering role with a strong focus on governance, technical support, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. You'll be part of a dynamic environment that values innovation, continuous improvement, and the integration of emerging technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver SIB sustaining capital projects from concept through execution, aligned with asset management strategies and governance standards.
- Develop and maintain governance tools and processes (stage-gate frameworks, risk registers, cost/schedule management, lessons learned, quality assurance).
- Prepare and present project status reports, risks, and outcomes to management and stakeholders.
- Identify and prioritise SIB project opportunities in collaboration with Engineering & Optimisation and Operations teams.
- Engage and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including asset management, operations, design consultants, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Drive continuous improvement and integrate sustainability and AI best practices into project delivery.
- Participate in design reviews and ensure compliance with engineering standards and project objectives.
About You
- Minimum 5 years' project experience, ideally in renewable energy (wind experience highly valued); oil & gas, mining, or heavy industry experience also considered.
- Proven ability to deliver projects from concept to execution, including governance and technical support.
- Strong understanding of asset performance, optimisation, and operational environments.
- Skilled in project management tools and systems (e.g., MS Project, SAP) and methodologies (PMI, Prince2, or similar).
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and process improvement mindset.
- Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Control Systems/Automation, Renewable Energy, or related discipline).
- Willingness to travel regularly to sites (primarily QLD, VIC, and NSW).
- Current driver's licence.
