We Build Recruitment are now looking to recruit a Project Manager on behalf of our client, a specialist engineering and operations company supporting the UK energy and utilities sectors. They deliver expert services across design, construction, and asset management of high-voltage networks, renewables, and grid connection projects.

The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end delivery of transmission and distribution projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The role involves managing multidisciplinary teams, coordinating with clients and stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company procedures. The successful candidate will combine strong technical knowledge with proven leadership and commercial acumen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, execution, and completion of transmission and distribution projects, ensuring alignment with client requirements and company objectives.
  • Develop detailed project plans, manage resources, budgets, and schedules, and proactively identify and mitigate risks.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining effective communication and building long-term relationships.
  • Oversee and coordinate project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure high standards of safety, quality, and performance.
  • Monitor project progress, prepare reports, and ensure all works comply with relevant legislation, standards, and company policies.
  • Drive continuous improvement and support business development by identifying opportunities for innovation and efficiency across projects.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of tendering processes within engineering, utilities, or energy sectors (design, construction, and O&M preferred).
  • Commercially astute with proven ability to develop competitive bids and manage costs/rates.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with confidence in representing the company externally.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a small team (initially one direct report).
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously.
  • Strong technical awareness to interface effectively with engineering and operational teams.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiar with bid/tendering portals

Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline (desirable but not essential with strong experience).
  • Previous experience in a Project Management role within the energy, utilities, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Demonstrable track record of supporting successful Projects.
  • Experience in supplier engagement and commercial negotiations.
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts and framework tendering (Desirable)
