The
Senior Legal Advisor - Bupa Global Insurance
, will be a key part of the Bupa Global Legal team with responsibility for the provision of strategic commercial and regulatory legal advice to ensure the effective management of legal risk to underpin delivery of the Bupa Global Business Unit strategy and Bupa's purpose in accordance with our values.

As a
Senior Legal Advisor,
you will provide legal support in relation to Bupa Global Business Unit, with a focus on Insurance Sales and Distribution activities, and will take a strong leadership role in managing legal risk across this key segment of the Bupa Global Business Unit activities

Key Responsibilities

  • Acting as a business partner by providing expert legal and commercial support to stakeholders in Bupa Global Business Unit to help it achieve its commercial goals aligned with Bupa's strategy and risk appetite.
  • The provision of advice and support to the Business Unit in drafting and negotiating agreements including but not limited to third party distribution agreements, reinsurance and retrocession agreements, agreements for the provision by corporate clients of international private medical insurance to achieve agreed business outcomes and ensure compliance with applicable law and regulation, including Bupa's own policies, guidance and procedures.
  • Working closely with stakeholders to deliver effective support and advice as a key team member in RFI, RFP and competitive tender processes.
  • Providing an escalation point for complex technical legal queries ensuring their effective, timely and commercially sound resolution.
  • Dealing with a wide range of "business as usual" requests.
  • Keeping up to date with external best practise and developments in the law and regulation in order to maintain up to date knowledge and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Ensuring that appropriate procedures are in place to provide the business with adequate advance notice of changes in law and regulation and an understanding of the commercial implications of such changes.

What We're Looking For

  • A Qualified lawyer who can demonstrate exceptional commercial awareness, with good knowledge of data protection, information security and IP law.
  • You have an understanding of the regulatory landscape and risk profile concerning insurance distribution.
  • Experience of drafting and negotiating customer-facing agreements, including in relation to the provision of healthcare benefits, and advising on how to manage any associated risks and strengthen relationships with counterparties.
  • Strong drafting and negotiating skills with a high attention to detail and bring tenacity, critical thinking and excellent analytical skills to legal problems.
  • Exceptional commercial awareness and can build credibility with business function stakeholders, influence outcomes and provide practical and pragmatic solutions.
  • Experience of making risk-based decisions in a complex operating environment with multiple competing demands. You understand the balance between commercial mechanisms and contractual mechanisms to manage risks and are able to articulate those risks in an appropriate manner.
  • Understanding of distribution channels and arrangements - strongly preferred
