To be an active member of the multi-professional 0-19 team, supporting the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme across Luton and Bedfordshire.

·       Perform delegated clinical tasks independently e.g. weighing and measuring babies in clinic and at home, undertake growth measurements in schools for the National Childhood Measurement Programme, complete newborn bloodspot testing.

·       Provide care for children and families as directed by the Specialist Community Public Health Nurses or other members of the team and feedback the findings from this contact to the accountable caseload holder.

·       Provide individualised and group support to families to encourage and support breast feeding and appropriate weaning when required.

·       Carry clinical and other equipment short distances using light to moderate effort, e.g. infant / child weighing scales when necessary.

·       Offer support to individuals to enable them to access other services and organisations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·       Act in a manner that is courteous, polite and considerate at all times.

·       Contribute to the delivery of a high standard of care.

·       Perform delegated clinical tasks independently e.g. weighing and measuring babies in clinic and at home, undertake growth measurements in schools for the National Childhood Measurement Programme, complete newborn bloodspot testing.

·       Provide care for children and families as directed by the Specialist Community Public Health Nurses or other members of the team and feedback the findings from this contact to the accountable caseload holder.

·       Provide individualised and group support to families to encourage and support breast feeding and appropriate weaning when required.

·       Carry clinical and other equipment short distances using light to moderate effort, e.g. infant / child weighing scales when necessary.

·       Offer support to individuals to enable them to access other services and organisations.

·       Work with clients who first language may not be English using interpreting services, when appropriate

·       Organise health promotion displays and materials for the public health nursing team.

·       Contribute to effective communications and working relationships within the team and partner agencies including children's centres.

·       To be able to identify own areas of professional and personal development.

·       To work as an independent practitioner when assessed as competent to deliver packages of care.

·       Plan and organise own clinical/ non clinical responsibilities to ensure effective use of time.

·       To build professional rapport with service users and their families, communicate with them in a way that respects their views, autonomy and culture.

·       To communicate effectively with all professionals concerned with the family's care.

·       Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.

·       To report effectively to the team on child and family's progress against the care plan in place.

·       To ensure that up to date written and electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional Standards.
