Job Vacancy: Core 4 Animal Care Assistant – Smith's Pets, Portrack Lane

Do you have hands-on experience caring for small animals and birds and a knack for great customer service?

Smith's Pets are looking for a caring, confident, and reliable Animal Care Assistant to join our Core 4 team at our Portrack Lane store.

About the Role

Working in our Core 4 department, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day care of our small animals and birds, while also helping customers find the right products and advice for their pets.

Your duties will include:

  • Feeding, cleaning, and carrying out health checks on small animals and birds
  • Maintaining enclosures and displays to a high standard
  • Managing and rotating stock
  • Assisting customers with friendly, knowledgeable advice and recommendations
  • Supporting the wider team to ensure smooth store operations

What We're Looking For

  • Experience and confidence in handling small animals and birds is essential
  • Animal care qualifications are preferred
  • Sales or retail experience is an advantage — it's not all fluffy animals, we have customers to take care of too
  • A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Flexibility to work weekends on a rota

Pay: From £12.21 per hour
