Purpose of Post:
To act as a first point of contact for people experiencing mental health and wellbeing problems responding to phone, online, email and/or face to face contacts alongside the reception and administration team providing regular support and cover when needed such as annual leave and sickness.
To work with people to identify the most significant problem or problems facing them and to work out how it, or they, can be resolved, who is best placed to assist with the resolution, what steps they need to take to resolve it and actively supporting clients to take the necessary steps.
To provide person centred single session support to respond to a person's most significant problem within a single meeting or call working with the person to develop a clear plan of action.
To support people work through problems on a one at time basis, if a single session is insufficient, to respond to one problem in each session developing a clear plan of action.
To act as a link worker for support groups supporting the groups to be self-facilitating and self-supporting, offering expertise, insight, encouragement to group members as well as supporting people to successfully join the support groups.
To work with a range of statutory and third sector individuals and organisations to maximise the support, resources and opportunities available for clients to take action to respond to the problems they face.
Principal Responsibilities:
To deliver support to people via the phone, online, email or face to face in a warm, welcoming, friendly and human way that is asset based, trauma informed and person centred to support people to take action to respond successfully to the problems they are experiencing.
To work in close collaboration with the reception and administration team supporting them in responding to visitors and callers acting as a source of expertise, a resource and a referral point for the team as well as being present on reception at agreed times and providing cover when needed.
To deliver support to people in short conversations, drop in sessions and scheduled appointments that promotes their involvement, agency and action in improving their own mental wellbeing for them to develop plans that utilise the range of resources and support available to them.
To adopt an approach where every interaction with you counts as an opportunity for people to have a helpful experience that can address their immediate concerns recognising that wisdom is not limited to mental health professionals and that individuals often know what is best for them
To utilise a range of models, techniques, approaches and personal experience such as motivational interviewing, asset and strengths based approaches, social prescribing models and person centred listening skills to support people to have their best life.
To network effectively with voluntary and statutory agencies to understand the services, support and referral routes for people to access the services and support. Working with clients so that they have the knowledge, understanding and skills to access services, support and to improve their mental wellbeing and resilience for themselves.
To focus on coproduction ensuring that people have their views heard and that their needs and wishes, individually and collectively, are central to the services and support provided.
Ensure all work is recorded and monitored to help with planning, to achieve outcomes and contribute to performance management on an individual, team and organisational basis.
Ensure that anti-racism, equity and diversity are central to your work addressing disadvantage, inequities, stigma and discrimination, making sure that you take action to reach people marginalised or disadvantaged and that the services you provide match their needs.
Work in accordance with best practice, legal requirements, the policies of Mind in Gwent, and the policies proscribed by the funders and to contribute to the development of such policies.
Support service development through researching models of good practice, sharing good practice guidelines, developing and leading on partnerships and initiating new services.
To contribute to the work of other projects and teams of Mind in Gwent as when required or directed to provide cover or to develop new skills or take on new opportunities.
Expectations
To work in line with, and to support the delivery of, the vision, mission, values and goals of Mind in Gwent and to be a champion for Mind in Gwent at all times.
Adhere to and work within all the policies of Mind in Gwent and Wellbeing and Counselling Service such as child protection policy, protection of vulnerable adults, confidentiality and data protection policies, and the policies contained within the employee handbook.
To actively participate, engage with, and respond to, the Mind in Gwent supervision, external supervision and appraisal processes.
To attend and positively contribute to Mind in Gwent and Wellbeing and Counselling Service meetings and other meetings as required.
To attend and positively contribute to Mind in Gwent, Wellbeing and Counselling training as required.
To actively contribute to a positive, supportive and constructive working ethos, relationships and environment with Mind in Gwent, partner organisations and other organisations.
To actively communicate about your work sharing relevant updates, achievements, and people's stories with their permission with the communications team to be shared in various ways, including on social media and in impact reports to funders or stakeholders contributing to Mind in Gwent's visibility and profile.
To contribute to making Mind in Gwent a greener workplace.
To support and contribute to our overall aim of the participation people with experience of mental health problems, including within Mind in Gwent and to be committed to working alongside people with experience of mental health problems, as colleagues, (paid & unpaid) experts and campaigners.
To be flexible, adaptable and undertake work to support the aims of Mind in Gwent, the aims of the Wellbeing and Counselling Service and to meet the needs of the people and communities Mind in Gwent serves.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Pay: £26,824.00-£29,540.00 per year
