Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Team Leader to support the day-to-day running of a children's residential home. The successful candidate will lead and guide a team of Residential Support Workers, ensuring the delivery of safe, consistent, and nurturing care to children and young people aged 8–18. This role requires a compassionate leader with strong communication skills, a child-centred approach, and a commitment to maintaining high standards in line with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate, and support staff to provide high-quality, trauma-informed care.
  • Supervise daily operations, ensuring routines, policies, and care standards are followed.
  • Support staff in managing challenging behaviour using positive, restorative approaches.
  • Oversee completion and quality of daily logs, keywork notes, and incident reports.
  • Assist management with audits, inspections, and compliance monitoring.
  • Contribute to rotas, recruitment, induction, and ongoing staff development.
  • Promote safeguarding and ensure all incidents or concerns are reported appropriately.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with young people and act as a role model.
  • Support young people to achieve goals, develop independence, and engage in education and activities.
  • Maintain effective communication with professionals, families, and external agencies.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Experience working in a children's residential care setting.
  • Hold or be working towards a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate a team.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and Ofsted regulations.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour and model best practice.
  • Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and sleep-ins.
  • Enhanced DBS required prior to employment.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience as a Team Leader or Senior Support Worker.
  • Understanding of EBD, attachment, and therapeutic models of care.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience contributing to audits, Regulation 44/45 processes, or Ofsted inspections.
  • Working towards or willing to complete the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management.
