About the Role

Priory Concept Group LTD is recruiting a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Craftsman to provide temporary cover within the Estates & Facilities team at Royal Bournemouth Hospital. This role is essential in ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant operation of mechanical and associated services across the hospital estate.

You will support both planned and reactive maintenance, conducting complex diagnostic and repair work, while ensuring that all activities meet Trust standards, statutory requirements and Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs). The role also involves providing technical leadership and guidance to colleagues and contractors as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose faults and undertake complex maintenance, repairs and installations on mechanical, electrical and electronic systems
  • Ensure operational reliability of plant, equipment and building services to reduce downtime
  • Work to current technical regulations, drawings and specifications
  • Contribute to safety compliance through rigorous application of Trust policies and procedures
  • Support continuous improvement by recommending service and process enhancements
  • Maintain relevant documentation, including digital maintenance management systems
  • Provide technical support and instruction to trainees, apprentices and maintenance assistants
  • Participate in the on-call rota to provide emergency support outside normal working hours
  • Perform duties as an Authorised/Responsible/Competent Person in one or more of the following areas:

– Heating and Ventilation Systems

– Safe Water Systems

– Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS)

– Confined Spaces

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • HNC in Building Services or equivalent apprenticeship with relevant experience and specialist training
  • Extensive mechanical and/or plumbing experience in complex estates environments
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation, technical guidance and HTMs
  • Proven technical capability in fault-finding, maintenance and repair of mechanical building services
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload efficiently
  • Effective communication skills at all levels within a multidisciplinary organisation
  • Full UK driving licence and suitable vehicle for on-call duties
  • Good level of physical fitness appropriate for the role's demands

Desirable

  • Previous experience working within an NHS environment
  • Current qualifications and authorisation status aligned to mechanical safety systems
