The Opportunity
We're looking for a detail-focused Quality Inspector to help deliver high-quality products to our international customers. This hands-on role involves inspecting both incoming components and outgoing assemblies using precision tools, as well as supporting Factory Acceptance Testing to ensure products are ready for release. It's a great opportunity for someone with a background in a high–attention-to-detail role to step into a quality-focused position, working closely with a supportive team in a fun, flexible, and fast-growing environment.
Who We Are
OpenWorks is a rapidly growing business operating globally with a passion for exceptional engineering and building on a legacy of defence innovation in the North East of England.
Our products provide ultra-high performance, real-time detection, tracking, identification and targeting of dynamic aerial threats. They have been deployed internationally to protect high-profile military and civilian assets and contribute towards the defeat of nuisance, misguided, and maliciously deployed drones during operations.
We are very proud to have supported a wide range of law enforcement and military operators, protecting many of the most high-profile sites and individuals around the world.
The amazing things we do are only possible because of a dedicated and passionate team.
Why You'll Love Working With Us
Join a high-energy, collaborative team - where great ideas thrive, challenges are embraced, and people genuinely love what they do.
Here's what our benefits have to offer:
- Competitive remuneration package, with performance-related bonuses and clear progression opportunities.
- 25 days' holiday + public holidays, with long-service rewards and the option to buy up to 5 additional days.
- Free breakfast and freshly cooked lunches every day, courtesy of Chef Mark and his team.
- Private healthcare through Aviva, keeping you feeling your best.
- Life assurance for peace of mind for you and your loved ones.
- Salary sacrifice schemes – including EV car and Cycle to Work options for easy, sustainable travel.
- Paid team socials – from quiz nights and football to board games and more; we love to have fun together.
- Pension plan with employer-matched contributions.
- A culture that empowers – we enable change, encourage challenge, and celebrate personal growth.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Quality Inspector, you'll play a hands-on role in ensuring our products meet the highest standards before they reach our international customers. You'll:
Inspect incoming components — from visual checks of finishes and paint quality to micron-accurate measurements using advanced metrology equipment such as micrometers, CMMs, and laser scanners.
Inspect outgoing assemblies, verifying that all documentation and quality records are complete and correct.
Support and conduct Factory Acceptance Testing to ensure products meet required standards before release.
Work closely with Engineering and Production teams to identify and resolve quality issues quickly and effectively.
Maintain accurate inspection records and contribute to the continual improvement of our inspection and quality processes.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with a sharp eye for detail and a passion for getting things right first time. The ideal candidate will bring:
Attention to detail: experience working in an inspection or precision-focused role.
Surface finish knowledge: understanding of paint, anodising, and surface finish standards.
Metrology experience: confident using micrometers, vernier callipers, plug/thread gauges, and surface roughness tools.
Technical ability: strong maths skills and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Accurate documentation ability: comfortable recording inspection data, documenting non-conformances, and logging test reports accurately.
Industrial background: experience in mechanical or electrical industrial environments such as automotive, machine shop, component inspection, electronics/electrical manufacturing, or similar sectors.
Graduate suitability: Candidates can be qualified by time in industry OR a Mechanical Engineering graduate with exposure to, and enthusiasm for, quality and inspection practices could be well suited.
Desirable: experience with CMMs or laser scanners, calibration of measurement tools, prior work in defence/aerospace, and a creative, problem-solving mindset with strong communication skills.
