- Role Overview
We are seeking hardworking, reliable and enthusiastic Ecology Operatives to support the delivery of practical ecological contracting and environmental management projects across the UK.
This is a diverse, hands-on, and rewarding outdoor role suited to individuals who enjoy physical work, learning new skills, and contributing to meaningful environmental outcomes. Daily tasks vary widely and may include:
· Habitat creation, such as building ponds, wetlands and other ecological features
· Vegetation clearance and habitat management
· Invasive species control
· Planting and landscaping
· Fencing and site preparation
· Supporting ecological mitigation works
No prior experience in ecological contracting is required - full training is provided, including opportunities to gain recognised qualifications in machinery operation, ecological skills and site safety. This role also offers excellent long-term career development, with clear progression routes into Supervisor and Project Manager positions.
- Key Responsibilities
Practical Site Work
- Carry out a range of outdoor ecological and environmental tasks, including:
- pond and wetland creation
- vegetation clearance and habitat management
- invasive species control (e.g., Himalayan balsam, Japanese knotweed)
- tree and shrub planting
- fencing, landscaping and site restoration
- ecological mitigation and supporting specialist works
- Operate plant, tools and equipment safely and responsibly (training provided).
- Follow instructions from Supervisors and Project Managers to deliver high-quality, accurate work.
- Assist in setting up, maintaining and clearing work areas.
- Load, unload and move materials, equipment and tools as required.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Follow all site safety rules, RAMS and toolbox talks at all times.
- Use PPE correctly and maintain good housekeeping on site.
- Work in accordance with ecological best practices, wildlife legislation and biosecurity procedures (training provided).
- Immediately report hazards, environmental concerns or incidents to the Site Supervisor.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work closely with fellow Ecological Operatives, Supervisors and Ecologists to complete tasks effectively.
- Maintain a positive, respectful and professional attitude at all times.
- Support teammates, contribute to a strong team environment and help maintain high morale on site.
- Represent the company positively during interactions with clients, landowners and members of the public.
Tools, Plant & Equipment
- Use hand tools, power tools and plant machinery safely and competently (training provided).
- Assist with daily checks, cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
- Report defects, damage or concerns promptly to the Supervisor or Project Manager.
Travel & Work Conditions
- Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and terrain.
- Travel to sites throughout the UK, with overnight stays when required (accommodation and expenses provided).

Training, Development & Career Progression

- CSCS & SSSTS
- CPCS/NPORS Machinery (Dumper, Excavator, Loader, etc.)
- Chainsaw qualifications
- Woodchipper training
- Emergency First Aid at Work (+F Forestry)
- Habitat creation and restoration techniques
- Invasive species management
- Ecological mitigation and survey support
Required Qualifications & Attributes
- A strong work ethic and willingness to learn new skills.
- Reliability, punctuality and a positive attitude.
- Ability to work outdoors in physically demanding environments.
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely.
- Full UK driving licence (mandatory).
Preferred (Training Can Be Provided)
- CSCS Card
- Experience with tools, machinery or outdoor labouring
- Chainsaw or plant machinery ticket
- Basic understanding of ecology, environmental management, or landscaping
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £32,110.00-£37,050.00 per year
