JOB – Mechanical Development Engineer

LOCATION – Southampton

TERM- Permanent

SALARY - £30,000-£45,000, dependent on experience

My client is a specialist manufacturer within the Oil & Gas and Energy industries. They are looking for a Mechanical Development Engineer to join their team based in Southampton on a permanent basis.

The Mechanical Development Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

  • Degree qualified or the equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
  • 4 years' or more experience working in a similar hands-on Mechanical Design position within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in Oil & Gas, Energy, Marine, Aerospace or similar industries would be beneficial
  • Be proficient using 3D CAD and 2D software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD etc.
  • Have the ability to select the correct engineering components and materials
  • Previous experience of working with special purpose machine assemblies, test rigs or precision tooling would be desirable
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to work well alone as well as part of a team

The Mechanical Development Engineer role will involve:

  • Designing development equipment, prototype production tooling, test rigs, machine parts and other equipment in an engineering development environment
  • Working with 3D CAD software
  • Taking projects from brief through to the full design solution and then to final validation
  • Meeting deadlines and targets that are set
  • Conducting product testing
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary engineering team
  • Providing engineering problem resolution and support
  • Working closely with the electrical / controls team to ensure key projects are delivered to customers on time
  • Using project management tools to help deliver projects too
  • Looking at any opportunities to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
