We are a leader in the specialist lighting installation industry operating for over 70 years with a strong portfolio of high-profile projects. We are seeking a skilled lighting installer to join our team. Must have knowledge and experience in the museum lighting industry and with low voltage lighting, showcase lighting, LED tape and track lighting.
Job Summary
Responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of specialised lighting systems for museums, galleries, and exhibition spaces.
This role focuses on precision lighting to enhance artworks, artefacts, and displays while meeting conservation, safety, and aesthetic standards.
The installer works primarily with low-voltage lighting systems, including track lighting, showcase lighting, and LED tape.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and commission low-voltage lighting systems in museums, galleries, and exhibition environments
- Install, adjust, and align track lighting to achieve precise illumination and beam control
- Install and conceal showcase and display case lighting, ensuring minimal visual impact
- Install, cut, solder, and program LED tape and linear lighting systems
- Read and interpret lighting plans, technical drawings, and exhibition layouts
- Safely route cabling, drivers, transformers, and power supplies according to standards
- Test lighting systems for correct voltage, brightness, colour temperature, and uniformity
- Adjust lighting to meet curatorial, conservation, and design requirements
- Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and replacement of lighting components
- Collaborate with exhibition designers, curators, electricians, and project managers
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes, museum conservation guidelines, and safety regulations
- Work carefully around valuable artefacts and finished exhibition elements
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience installing low-voltage lighting systems
- Hands-on experience with track lighting, showcase lighting, and LED tape
- Basic electrical knowledge (drivers, transformers, dimming systems, wiring)
- Ability to work with hand tools, ladders, and lifts
- Strong attention to detail and visual precision
- Ability to read technical drawings and lighting layouts
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in museums, galleries, exhibitions, or retail display environments
- Knowledge of conservation lighting principles (UV/IR control, light levels for artefacts)
- Experience with dimming systems (DALI, 0–10V, DMX)
- Basic understanding of colour temperature, CRI, and beam angles
Working Conditions
- On-site work in museums, galleries, and temporary exhibition spaces
- May involve working at heights, lifting lighting fixtures, and detailed close-up work
- Flexible hours, including evenings or weekends during exhibition installations. May sometimes be required to work away (UK and EU).
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £20.00-£35.00 per hour
