Bancroft Contracting's Welders and Fitters are utilized on industrial and commercial construction sites. The positions require heavy physical work under all environmental conditions. Good physical conditioning is important to success in the positions. Regardless of prior formal training or experience, an employee must demonstrate on the job, the ability to carry out or to quickly learn and competently execute, all essential functions of the position. These positions require travel within New England — either a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle, or a practical alternative plan for getting to the jobsite, is a requirement of the job. A typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with opportunities for additional work on weekends.

Positions Available
Structural Welder / Ironworker
(Steel Building Erection, Welding, Fabrication)
Has significant experience on construction worksites, and understands and has experience in the use of basic hand tools and portable power tools and some heavy equipment. The ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints, as well as clearly relay that information and further instructions to other members of the construction crew. Under the supervision of a crane operator, journey-level craftsman, or crew foreman, conduct rigging operations routinely, competently, safely, and independently for materials and equipment for movement by hand or by on-site mobile crane, backhoe, forklift or other powered lifting device. This person fits, erects, and either welds or bolts together steel stock and components to construct all manner of permanent and temporary structures such as buildings, structural support frameworks, penstocks, draft tubes, tanks, boilers, and vessels. Passes and, at all times during employment, maintains ability to pass ASME Section IX structural welding tests in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions. Will lead less experienced crew members as the demands of production require. When welding tasks are not being performed, alternative duties are expected to be fulfilled, including that of a Civil or Mechanical Helper.

Pipe Welder / Pipe Fitter
Has significant experience on construction worksites, and understands and has experience in the use of basic hand tools and portable power tools and some heavy equipment. The ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints, as well as clearly relay that information and further instructions to other members of the construction crew. Under the supervision of a crane operator, journey-level craftsman, or crew foreman, conduct rigging operations routinely, competently, safely, and independently for materials and equipment for movement by hand or by on-site mobile crane, backhoe, forklift or other powered lifting device. This person fits, erects, and either welds or bolts together steel stock and components to construct all manner of permanent and temporary structures such as buildings, structural support frameworks, penstocks, draft tubes, tanks, boilers, and vessels. Passes and, at all times during employment, maintains ability to pass ASME Section IX structural welding tests in horizontal (2g), vertical (3g), and overhead positions (4g), as well as X-ray quality on pressure vessels, boiler tubes, and pressurized piping systems (6g) in a variety of base metals. Works effectively and efficiently to produce complex runs of pipe of all types. Will lead less experienced crew members as the demands of production require. When welding tasks are not being performed, alternative duties are expected to be fulfilled, including that of a Civil or Mechanical Helper.

Instrument Fitter
Has significant experience on construction worksites, and understands and has experience in the use of basic hand tools and portable power tools and some heavy equipment. The ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints, as well as clearly relay that information and further instructions to other members of the construction crew. Under the supervision of a crane operator, journey-level craftsman, or crew foreman, conduct rigging operations routinely, competently, safely, and independently for materials and equipment for movement by hand or by on-site mobile crane, backhoe, forklift or other powered lifting device. This person fits, erects, and welds together steel stock and components to construct all manner of permanent and temporary structures such as buildings, structural support frameworks, penstocks, draft tubes, tanks, boilers, and vessels. Passes and, at all times during employment, maintains ability to pass ASME Section IX structural welding tests in horizontal (2g), vertical (3g), and overhead positions (4g), as well as X-ray quality on pressure vessels, boiler tubes, and pressurized piping systems (6g) in a variety of base metals.
