We're a partnership - our people are empowered to create their own teams to exceed clients' expectations. This collaborative approach enables us to tailor talent to the complexity of each instruction and deliver outstanding results. We give everyone the opportunity to be the best version of themselves.

THE TEAM

The 45+ strong Rating team headed up by Josh Myerson is divided into three principal workstreams: Occupier Rating, Landlord/Developer Rating and Rate Management.

The Occupier Rating sub-team advises some of the UK's largest and most recognisable occupiers across retail, hospitality, leisure, logistics, healthcare, and corporate portfolios. The team's focus is on delivering strategic advice and appeal management to minimise rate liability and identify operational efficiencies. Clients include national brands, blue-chip occupiers, and public sector bodies.

THE ROLE

The Referencer plays an integral role in the Rating Advisory team, providing accurate, detailed and timely property data to support surveyors and senior colleagues in delivering high-quality business rates advice to occupier clients. This is an experienced technical role requiring sound knowledge of property referencing, inspection and measurement techniques, as well as familiarity with the business rates system. The Referencer will work both independently and collaboratively to gather and maintain data that underpins valuation assessments, appeal submissions, and strategic client advice.

• Undertake property inspections and desktop referencing to capture detailed building information (size, layout, construction, use).

• Measure and record property dimensions using recognised standards such as IPMS, GIA and NIA.

• Capture and catalogue photographic evidence and maintain accurate referencing records.

• Input and maintain referencing data within internal databases and valuation systems.

• Validate and reconcile referencing information with Valuation Office Agency (VOA) data and public record sources.

• Prepare and quality-check referencing outputs for use in valuation assessments and appeal documentation.

• Liaise with clients, landlords, and local authorities to obtain up-to-date property information.

• Support surveyors in compiling evidence packs and Check/Challenge/Appeal submissions.

• Ensure compliance with RICS measurement standards, data protection and internal quality assurance processes.

• Contribute to continuous improvement of referencing systems, templates, and workflows.

DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

• Proven experience in property referencing, technical surveying support, or a related property data role.

• Thorough understanding of building measurement and property data collection methods.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record keeping.

• Ability to interpret plans, leases, and VOA rating list entries.

• Competence in using mapping tools, digital plans, and Microsoft Office applications.

• Working knowledge of rating software platforms (e.g. PIMS, Analyse, Argus, Radius) desirable.

• Excellent organisation, time management and communication skills.

• Commitment to high professional standards and data integrity.

• Full UK driving licence.

• Relevant technical or vocational qualification (e.g. HNC/HND in Building Studies, BTEC in Construction) preferred.
