Job Description:

Rainbow Fostering Services Ltd are seeking a dedicated and passionate Youth Participation Officer to join our diverse team, based Harrow, London The ideal candidate will be responsible for working 1:1 with children, young people and foster families, planning and hosting events, providing mentorship, and supporting young people and acting as their advocate. As a Youth Participation Officer, you will play a crucial role in creating a safe and nurturing relationship for young individuals to thrive. This is an office based role in Harrow with expectations to travel the London area, Milton Keynes and Hampshire when needed.

The Ideal Candidate:

You will be passionate about supporting young people and families in foster care, working 1:1 with children of all ages, abilities and needs. You'll be knowledgeable and experienced at supporting children to share their views using a range of tools and techniques and helping them communicate their thoughts and wishes. You will have the ability to manage your time and plan events in accordance with the needs and interests of the children and families.

We are looking for someone who understands the value of partnership working and has the ability to manage relationships with a range of partners, including external organisations and professionals.

Key Duties:

  • Engage with children and young people in our Youth Participation activities
  • Create and implement developmentally appropriate activities
  • Set accurate goals for interventions for young people in line with their needs
  • Provide educational support and guidance to children
  • Mentor and support children and young people, including those with special education needs
  • Foster positive relationships with young people and foster families
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the well-being of the child
  • Log and maintain accurate records of children's progress and behaviour
  • Attend professional meetings and be the voice of the young person, when necessary
  • Promote and represent Rainbow Fostering to increase the number of children we support every year
  • Advocate for the needs of children and families and work in a child focused way
  • Ensuring services are delivered safely and responding promptly to any safeguarding related concerns in line with Rainbow Fostering's procedures and adhering to good practice

Requirements:

  • Must hold a valid driving licence and own a car
  • Must be willing to travel across London, Milton Keynes and Hampshire for visits and events
  • 1 year experience working with children and youth
  • Experience of nurturing relationships with partner organisations
  • Knowledge of fostering/foster care principles and practices
  • Ability to deliver groupwork activities online and in person
  • Ability to plan children and family events
  • Ability to mentor and support children and young people who have experienced trauma, including those with special education needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in helping children and young people succeed
  • Resilient and able to maintain energy, focus and positivity
  • Ability to manage own workload independently

Must have the right to work in the UK for this role.
