Job title: Lead / Experienced Fencer (Domestic)

Location: Barnard Castle (typically within 30 miles; occasional further travel for larger jobs)

Job type: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: Meet at yard for 07:30–08:00 start. Finish typically 16:00–17:00.

Overtime: Available (especially in summer).

Weekend work: Available (optional, depending on workload).

About the role

We are looking for a lead, experienced fencer to take ownership of domestic fencing jobs from set-out to finish. Our work is 95% domestic, delivering clean, straight, durable fencing with a professional, customer-first approach.

This role is primarily fencing-led, with occasional additional work such as hedge cutting, garden clearances, and general landscaping support—ideal for someone who enjoys variety and wants to broaden skills and progress.

Typical work

• Domestic fencing across Barnard Castle, Darlington and surrounding local areas
• As a guide, a two-man team should comfortably achieve 15–20m per day, depending on specification and ground conditions
• We typically hand dig; a breaker is used as required (machinery not usually used)

Responsibilities

• Install and repair fencing including closeboard/feather edge, panels, post & rail, picket, and stock fencing
• Set out lines/levels, measure accurately, keep runs straight and consistent
• Dig and concrete posts (hand dig; breaker as needed)
• Gate installation and adjustment: hanging gates, fitting ironmongery, ensuring smooth operation and tidy finish
• (Ideal) Support on pergolas and decking where required
• Maintain safe working practices and keep sites tidy throughout
• Load/unload materials, keep yard and vehicle organised
• Communicate professionally with customers on-site and represent the company well
• Occasionally assist with hedge cutting, garden clearance, and landscaping tasks when required

Essential requirements

• Lead/experienced installer level, with 3+ years fencing experience
• Photos of previous work (fencing and gates) preferred with application
• Strong finish standards and ability to work unsupervised
• Confident in a customer-facing environment (domestic properties)
• Full UK driving licence

Company vehicle / insurance requirement (important)

Driving company vehicles may be required. Due to our motor insurer's conditions, drivers must be aged 25+ and hold a clean UK driving licence (no points/convictions). Any offer of employment is subject to driving licence checks and insurer approval.

Desirable (nice to have)

• Strong experience with gates and ironmongery
• Experience with pergolas and decking
• Ability to lead a mate/labourer, keep productivity up, and maintain quality
• Willingness to occasionally travel further for larger jobs
