Audit and Accounts Associate

A well-established and respected chartered accountancy practice near Cambridge is looking for an Audit and Accounts professional to join its growing team. The firm provides tailored audit, assurance, and business services to owner-managed businesses, charities, and not-for-profit organisations.
This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of your own client portfolio while contributing to the wider team. The role can be tailored to your strengths, with a balance of audit and business services work or a focus on one area if preferred.
Role Responsibilities:
- Conduct statutory audits for a varied client portfolio, including owner-managed businesses, charities, and not-for-profit organisations, under supervision and independently where appropriate.
- Prepare and review year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies, liaising with clients and tax teams as required.
- Provide management accounts, cash flow/forecasting support, and client advisory services, proactively identifying opportunities for added value.
- Attend client meetings, understand client needs, deliver high-quality service, and act as a point of contact.
- Support senior staff with proposals, client onboarding, and the development of new service lines.
- Stay up to date with accounting and auditing standards, as well as charity and NFP regulatory requirements, contributing to continuous improvement within the team.
- Support and mentor junior team members, helping to maintain a positive and collaborative team culture.
Personal Requirements:
- At least 3 years of practice experience.
- Experience conducting audits in a practice environment, ideally with exposure to charities and not-for-profit organisations.
- Comfortable preparing accounts for limited companies, sole traders, and partnerships, and providing business services advice.
- Strong technical knowledge of accounting and auditing standards.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and explain complex issues clearly.
- Proactive and commercially aware, able to work independently while being a supportive team member.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and enthusiasm for audit and business services work.
