Job introductionThe role will enhance the coordination, accessibility, and effectiveness of inclusion for all children and young people (CYP) and especially CYP with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and those at risk of exclusion or requiring Alternative Provision (AP). The role holder will act as a bridge between schools, services, and the local authority, with a primary focus of supporting schools to improve their whole school inclusive practice, linked to the Local Inclusion Support Offer.

About the roleAre you passionate about inclusive education and making a real difference in the lives of children and young people? Brighton & Hove City Council is part of the SEND & AP Change Programme and is looking to pilot the role of a Local Inclusion Support Navigator.
About the Role
As an Local Inclusion Support Navigator, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the coordination, accessibility, and effectiveness of inclusive practices across a number of schools in Brighton & Hove. You'll act as a vital bridge between schools, services, and the local authority—supporting schools to improve whole-school inclusive practice and ensuring that vulnerable children and young people receive the education they deserve.
Key Responsibilities
Provide expert advice and guidance to schools on inclusive practices, particularly for children at risk of exclusion, with SEND, or requiring alternative provision.
Analyse inclusion data and produce timely reports to support statutory responsibilities.
Build strong partnerships with schools, services, and external agencies to promote joined-up working.
Lead on training and development programmes to support inclusive education city-wide.
Monitor progress and maintain action plans aligned with the SEND & AP Change Programme.
Represent the council at local and national events to promote inclusive education.
About You
We're looking for someone with:
A degree and/or Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent experience.
In-depth knowledge of inclusive education, SEND, and the challenges faced by vulnerable learners.
Proven experience in multi-agency working and improving outcomes for children and young people.
Strong analytical, communication, and organisational skills.
A commitment to diversity, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

Additional informationYour starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
Part office / part home – hybrid - We are a workplace that supports flexibility and employee wellbeing in the way we work whilst providing the best service for our customers. Team and service working arrangements are designed to support both employee work life balance and team collaboration. These would be part of your individual working arrangements alongside any personal preference agreed with your manager in advance of joining. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team and travel to and from your contractual location would be at your own expense.
