- About the Role
Whether you're talking about length, mass, time, temperature, electric current, amount or the brightness of light, the National Physical Laboratory sets the standards by which these things are all measured. As an organisation we're doing so many great things. As our Internal Communications Specialist, you'll share what we're up to with our people, so that they're as excited about our future as we are. At NPL, we touch ordinary lives in extraordinary ways and you could too.
We've got big plans. Yet to reach our goals, we need our people to be fully engaged with what we're trying to achieve. You'll plan and manage the delivery of a wide range of internal communication projects.
From ensuring news and information is correct, to applying best practice and using the correct corporate style and branding; and from maintaining a database of communication plans that supports our strategy, to suggesting relevant communications channels… you will ensure that everything is delivered to the highest quality, within cost and to deadline. You will even help out with corporate communications activities as needed, as we work as one team here at NPL.
About You- You will plan and deliver a range of internal communication activities to support one of our major programmes, NPL's vision, targets and business plans, defining key business messages and write clear, effective and engaging copy to engage the relevant internal audiences with these messages.
You will ensure news and information is clearly and effectively communicated to the relevant audiences using the appropriate channels, applying best practice to internal and external communications, using the appropriate corporate style and branding.
You will also work with colleagues from across the programme and with the members of the Corporate Marketing and Communications team.
- With a background in internal and corporate communications, you have plenty of creative flair and the drive to get things done.
- Good organisation skills, meticulous attention to detail and a commercial awareness are all must-haves.
- You also need excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong copywriting and editing skills.
- Experience of working within a science, engineering or technology would be an advantage, and you will need to demonstrate a keen interest in science and engineering.
- Experience with using Office 365 tools, including SharePoint and Teams, is also essential.
Beyond that, we're looking for someone who'll thrive in an environment like ours. At NPL we learn from each other, respect each other and work together to do better for ourselves and for our customers.
We actively recruit citizens of all backgrounds, but the nature of our work in specific departments means that nationality,
residency and security requirements can be more tightly defined than others. You will be asked about this throughout the recruitment process. To work at NPL, you will need to obtain BPSS security clearance.
Please note: Applications will be reviewed, and interviews conducted throughout the duration of this advert therefore we may at any time bring the closing date forward. We encourage all interested applicants to apply as soon as practical.
NPL and DSIT have strong commitments to diversity and equality of opportunity, and welcome applications from candidates irrespective of their background, gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, or age, providing they meet the required criteria. Applications from women, disabled and black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates in particular are encouraged. All disabled candidates (as defined by the Equality Act 2010) who satisfy the minimum criteria for the role will be guaranteed an interview under the Disability Confident Scheme.
