Social Media Manager

Sunderland, Sunderland, United Kingdom British Esports Federation Full time £35,000 - £50,000 per year

Overview

British Esports is entering one of the most exciting chapters in its history. We recently announced IDEG, the International Defence Esports Games, and will host the inaugural finals at our world class Arena set to open in 2026. Activity across The Place, national esports events, the Arena, and our education programmes is also expanding rapidly.

To support this growth, we are building a dynamic Commercial team across Sales and Marketing. This role offers the chance to help shape that team from the ground up. You will have the freedom to put your own marker down and influence how British Esports presents itself, attracts audiences, drives revenue, and builds awareness across multiple business units.

We are looking for a proactive team player with an entrepreneurial approach. Someone with the ability to spot opportunities, can act on them, and thrives in an environment where commercial outcomes matter.

If you want to contribute to a growing organisation and directly influence your own career path, this role is well suited to you.

Key Responsibilities

Content, Brand, and Channel Management

  • Curate, plan, and manage a multi-platform social media calendar across several business units.
  • Deliver content in a range of formats, selecting the right medium to maximise engagement and ROI.
  • Work within brand guidelines for British Esports Federation, the National Esports Performance Campus, The Place, and The Arena, ensuring content is both impactful and on brand.
  • Create and adapt messaging, tone, and creative approach for different audiences and personas.
  • Ensure all output is visually consistent, professional, and aligned with each brand's identity.

Paid Media and Performance

  • Plan, build, and optimise META and Google Ads campaigns, including retargeting and lookalike audiences.
  • Operate with realistic budgets and maintain strong focus on efficiency and ROI.
  • Prioritise commercial return and meaningful engagement over high volume, low value traffic.
  • Use Google Analytics and platform insights to monitor performance and refine strategy.
  • Produce clear reporting linking activity to bookings, revenue, and attendance.

Partner and Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work with commercial partners to ensure social deliverables meet agreed schedules and expectations.
  • Manage commitments including frequency, quantity, tags, mentions, and co-branded activity.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Education, and Venue teams to support launches and promotions.
  • Respond quickly to real world opportunities that can drive interest and commercial outcomes.

Commercial and Strategic Input

  • Develop proposals, campaign plans, and business cases that demonstrate ROI and secure internal buy in.
  • Contribute to the development of the commercial function as the organisation scales.
  • Identify new growth opportunities proactively.

Leadership and Ownership

  • Operate as a project owner, managing multiple priorities with confidence.
  • Present insights and examples from past campaigns, including objectives, performance, and outcomes.
  • Work decisively with an entrepreneurial mindset, taking initiative and seeking out new opportunities.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrable experience running META and Google Ads campaigns, including retargeting and audience targeting.
  • Strong understanding of brand identity and the ability to maintain visual and tonal consistency across multiple business units.
  • Proven ability to build, execute, and report on digital campaigns with clear commercial outcomes.
  • Experience managing multiple social media personas and adapting messaging for different audiences.
  • Ability to identify content needs early and brief or collaborate with content creators to ensure assets are produced on time for seamless calendar delivery.
  • Ability to quickly and accurately interpret data, refine strategy, and optimise campaigns.
  • Comfortable managing realistic budgets and driven by ROI focused decision making.
  • Confident decision maker with strong organisational skills and a commercial mindset.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics and performance monitoring tools.
  • Experience working with partners or sponsors and delivering contracted social content.

Desirable

  • Experience in holiday rentals, commercial lettings, events, or education sectors.
  • Understanding of Esports, gaming culture, and digital communities.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Premiere, and InDesign.
  • Confidence and willingness to appear in photography and video content when required.
  • Experience supporting venue openings, event promotion, or audience growth.

What We Offer

  • A rare opportunity to join British Esports at a pivotal moment as we launch major international events, The Place and prepare to open our new Sunderland Arena.
  • The opportunity to help shape a growing Commercial team with meaningful influence.
  • The freedom to build strategy without legacy constraints or existing playbooks.
  • A role where you can directly impact the organisation's direction and your own professional development.
  • A supportive environment that values initiative, creativity, commercial thinking, and entrepreneurial drive.
