Role Overview
The Technical Design Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the technical development, coordination, and delivery of construction and fit-out projects. The role ensures that all design information—architectural, structural, and MEP—is fully coordinated, buildable, compliant, and delivered on time to support efficient site operations. The coordinator acts as a crucial link between internal teams, external consultants, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign Coordination
- Manage and coordinate the flow of design information between architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
- Ensure design packages are aligned and fully coordinated across disciplines (architecture, MEP, structural, specialist trades).
- Review drawings, specifications, and technical submissions to verify accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
- Identify design clashes and drive resolution through coordination workshops or technical meetings.
Technical Oversight
- Support the technical review of subcontractor shop drawings, product data sheets, mock-ups, and material samples.
- Ensure all technical documentation complies with building regulations, industry standards, and client specifications.
- Assist in developing alternative technical solutions or value-engineering proposals where appropriate.
Documentation & Information Management
- Maintain accurate and current drawing registers, document control, and revision tracking.
- Coordinate and issue design information to site teams, ensuring timely release for construction activities.
- Prepare technical reports, RFI packages, and coordination meeting minutes.
Project Support
- Attend design coordination meetings, progress reviews, and site inspections as required.
- Provide technical input during tendering, procurement, and pre-construction phases.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure design milestones align with the construction programme.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of construction and fit-out processes.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting architectural, MEP, and structural drawings.
- Working knowledge of design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks (clash detection), or similar.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple design packages simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or diploma in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- 2–5+ years of experience in technical design coordination within construction or fit-out sectors.
- Experience working with subcontractor design packages and multi-disciplinary coordination.
- Familiarity with building regulations, industry standards, and compliance procedures.
