About the Role

Certas Energy is recruiting for a
Head of Projects
to lead and manage the delivery of all
Capital Projects
across our Terminals, Depots, and industrial sites within the
Energy Solutions
division.

This is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring all projects are
safely, efficiently, and compliantly delivered
— from concept through to commissioning — in accordance with regulations, legislation, and industry best practice. You'll manage a substantial annual capital portfolio (circa £10m) and a team of skilled project professionals, driving the consistent application of robust
Engineering Standards, Policies, and Procedures
across the estate.

Key Responsibilities:

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Champion a proactive health and safety culture in line with our
    Safety F1rst
    principles.
  • Ensure all capital projects fully comply with HSE legislation, company policies, and COMAH regulations.
  • Identify and manage safety and environmental critical equipment across all project stages.
  • Drive innovation in safe systems of work and ensure continuous improvement in HSE performance.

Technical Excellence

  • Lead and manage all
    Capital Expenditure
    within the Energy Solutions division (approx. £10m p.a.).
  • Direct a team of in-house and contracted Project Managers to deliver multiple concurrent projects safely and effectively.
  • Ensure all projects comply with current regulation, legislation, and recognised industry best practice.
  • Introduce and maintain a robust
    Project Management System
    to track progress, budgets, and performance.
  • Act as Technical Authority when reviewing scopes, designs, and specifications.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations teams to deliver technically sound and operationally effective outcomes.
  • Lead the Management of Change (MoC) process for plant modifications and new installations.

Financial Focus

  • Establish and oversee
    governance processes
    for accurate project scoping, budgeting, and approval.
  • Ensure all projects are delivered
    on time and on budget
    with full financial transparency.
  • Provide accurate reporting and forecasting of capital expenditure and project performance.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong relationships across the business to ensure alignment of project objectives with operational and commercial needs.
  • Support wider business initiatives, including acquisitions, third-party developments, and engineering improvement projects.
  • Maintain clear, transparent communication with all stakeholders throughout each project lifecycle.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Safety:
    Zero Lost Time Incidents (LTIs) from project works.
  • Delivery:
    Projects completed to schedule.
  • Financial:
    Projects delivered within approved budgets.
  • Engagement:
    Positive stakeholder feedback and communication effectiveness.

Experience

  • Proven track record of leading large-scale, multi-site capital projects in a high-hazard or industrial environment (e.g. energy, oil & gas, chemical, or utilities).
  • Strong experience in
    contract and tender management

  • Demonstrable success in
    people leadership
    and building high-performing project teams.
