Job purpose

This is a hugely exciting role leading on safety within the graze business The Hayes site is where it all comes together; a melting pot of brilliant people, tasty ingredients, value-adding systems and specialist production assets which together produce our delicious healthy snacks.

As SHE Manager you will lead the charge in creating a safer, greener workplace. You'll shape our safety culture, champion environmental responsibility, and ensure we meet the highest standards every day. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives on building engagement, and making a real impact on people and the planet.

What you'll be responsible for

  • Lead and improve site safety performance and culture, inspiring a team of 100+ to embrace high safety standards.
  • Develop and roll out a robust Safety Program aligned with our Vision Zero Harm goal.
  • Influence senior leaders across the site and wider Sand drive SHE governance across operations and support teams.
  • Identify safety and environmental risks, implement effective controls, and ensure legal compliance.
  • Advise on national SHE regulations and ensure site meet all Safety, Health and Environment legal requirements.
  • Collaborate with Unilever's UK SHE network to share and adopt best practices.
  • Partner with Occupational Health Provider to proactively reduce risks of work-related illness.
  • Play the leading role within the site leadership in managing crisis and safety committees; leading incident investigations and ensure follow-up actions are completed in a timely manner.
  • Build and run internal audit and inspection systems; host and support in external audits as needed.
  • Analyse trends from incidents, near misses, and safety observations; report performance to stakeholders.
  • Drive environmental improvements in waste, emissions, water, and energy use.

What we're looking for in you

  • Advanced qualification in Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental Sustainability e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate (or Equivalent)
  • Proven track record of methodical thinking and project management
  • Good knowledge of Manufacturing and Process Improvement
  • Engaging and able to influence all levels
  • Good observation and auditing skills
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to translate data into action and follow-through
  • Collaborative and strong communication skills
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and tech-savvy (Excel, Word, Office),
  • Able to lead and support teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexible Worker – Primarily Day shift. However, must be prepared to flex schedule to support off shifts as needed due to the site being 24/4 facility.

Preferred

  • 3-5 years' experience in a factory-based role. Process Improvement or Safety, Health or Environmental role.
