About HF

People. Not just lawyers

We're not your typical law firm – we're people with a passion for helping our clients and each other achieve the best possible outcomes. We are leading legal advisers to the insurance and commercial sectors across the UK & Ireland, known for our innovation, client focus, and long-lasting relationships. We do things differently, with a forward-thinking approach built around our clients' needs, supported by cutting-edge technology and a culture built around people from a wide range of backgrounds who are taking an equally wide range of routes to building their careers in law.

About the team

Chris Garrity, Head of Software Engineering & Application Support, shares his perspective on the role:

"This position presents an excellent opportunity for a driven and talented Scrum master to advance their career within a multi award-winning organisation. We're looking for someone who is passionate about delivering high-quality solutions and committed to enhancing the technical capabilities of the team. You'll be supported by a collaborative and experienced group, with dedicated time each week for personal development—allowing you to expand your skillset, gain valuable experience, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our services at HF."

What you'll be doing

Facilitate Scrum events (Daily Scrum, Iteration Planning, Backlog Refinement, Review, Retrospective) and ensure they are outcome-focused.

Coach the team on Agile and SAFe practices, Lean-Agile mindset, and team norms; model servant leadership.

Support effective Program Increment (PI) Planning: readiness, team capacity planning, risk management (ROAM), and drafting Team PI Objectives.

Enable flow using Kanban/Scrum, visualize work, manage WIP, and apply flow metrics (e.g. cycle time, throughput, aging).

Identify, remove, and/or escalate impediments quickly; partner with the Product and Technical owners and other Scrum Masters to resolve cross-team blockers.

Foster built-in quality (Definition of Ready/Done, test automation, CI/CD, pairing/mobbing, code review, and quality gates).

Partner with the Product Owner on backlog health: refinement cadence, clarity of acceptance criteria, and readiness for planning.

Drive relentless improvement via retrospectives, experiments, Kaizen, and Inspect & Adapt (I&A) problem-solving workshops.

Support dependency management and synchronization across teams (Scrum of Scrums/ART Sync).

Promote data-informed delivery using objectives, forecasts, and predictability measures; improve reliability of commitments.

Coach on DevOps and trunk-based practices to reduce lead time and improve release stability.

Champion psychological safety, inclusion, and high-collaboration ways of working.

In addition to the core responsibilities, the Scrum Master may be required to undertake additional tasks or assume other responsibilities as necessary to ensure the effective operation of the team and the continued delivery.

What do I need?

Experience as a Scrum Master or Agile Coach; experience within SAFe/ARTs is strongly preferred.

Proven facilitation of PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums/ART Sync, and Inspect & Adapt.

Hands-on with Agile tooling (Jira), dashboards, and flow/predictability metrics.

Strong coaching, mentoring, and conflict resolution skills; able to influence without authority.

Excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders; crisp written documentation.

Nice to Have

Experience supporting software engineering and application support teams in a production environment.

Experience of legal case management tooling, such as ShareDo.

Knowledge of incident & problem management, experience of ServiceNow.

Agile community of practice leadership.

What's in it for you?

Apart from the competitive salary you'd expect, our package of benefits reflects our values of partnership, innovation, and being real people. We're committed to creating a dynamic workplace where everyone feels supported, empowered, and part of our success.

You'll enjoy:

25 days' annual leave (rising to 30 with service) + Holiday Buy Scheme

Life Insurance & Income Protection

Private Medical Insurance & Healthcare Cash Plan

Employee Assistance Programme & Digital GP services

Pension Scheme

Electric Car Scheme

Enhanced Maternity, Paternity & Adoption Leave

Hybrid & Flexible Working Options
