Exciting opportunity for an experienced stud vet to join our team at Fyrnwy Equine Hospital for the 2026 season
Fyrnwy Equine Hospital is a well-established 18 vet practice with a Tier 3 equine hospital and ambulatory branch, covering Shropshire, Cheshire and North Wales. The practice consists of European boarded specialists in surgery and medicine, as well as 2 equine nurses, 1 student vet nurse and 11 support staff members. As a practice we manage a mix of National Hunt Thoroughbred studs and Sports horse clients as well as some individual breeders.
The main duties of the role include all routine tasks associated with stud medicine in both Thoroughbred and Sports Horse populations including embryo flushing and barren mare work up. Outside of the stud season, the role will include first opinion ambulatory practice including routine calls and emergencies with the freedom to explore your own areas of interest.
Opportunity for some hospital-based work up, support from the hospital and the follow up of your own cases is encouraged. Client liaison, keeping appropriate electronic records and updating the practice management system and providing high level of client satisfaction are expected. Opportunity to pursue post grad qualifications and certificates are encouraged.
The hospital has state of the art facilities including full surgical suite, MRI, portable DR's, ultrasound machines, gastroscopy, endoscopy, surgical laser, therapeutic laser and dental power tools.
You will partake in an equal share of the out of hours rota which is currently 1 in 7 with a second vet on call each weeknight and a separate stud rota for weekends. A day off in lieu is allocated for working a weekend. We will provide company vehicle, phone, tablet, VDS membership, RCVS membership and BEVA membership. There is a generous CPD allowance, workplace pension scheme and healthcare.
The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic team player dedicated to maintaining good client relations and applying equine care to a high standard.
Candidates must be registered with the RCVS and eligible to work in the UK.
Although advertised for next season, there is potential for the applicant to start sooner.
