Company Description

Founded in August 2012, International Women's Initiative (IWI) is a Community Interest Company (CIC) working towards the promotion of women's rights and gender equality around the world. We believe that we will achieve this through the creation of volunteer and professional networks and the provision of a platform for engaging in constructive commentary and ideas-sharing in the field. Funds raised by the organisation are used to support and resource partnerships with community-based organisations or projects. We are currently focusing on advancing our Safe Birthing Programme which seeks to reduce the high levels of maternal mortality in the Amolatar District, Uganda. We urgently seek a volunteer Director of Corporate Relations to help us raise the funds to ensure we are able to carry out this project. This would be the ideal role for someone who is hard working, has a lot of initiative and is keen to increase their experience in fundraising or an experienced fundraiser who would like to participate in the establishing of a young women's organisation. 

Job Description

The first stages of the SBP will be implemented over the next few months so we are at a really exciting phase and need an enthusiastic person to join our team that can become part of IWI and help us achieve our vision as an organisation. We would especially welcome anyone with any prior experience in fundraising that has a passion for gender equality and the values that our organisation represent. The position has the potential to become a paid position subject to funding

Position Details

Where: The position is carried out remotely from the volunteers home, for this reason it is essential that you have access to private internet and a computer, as well as good organisational and time management skills.

Duties: Reporting directly to the President and Director of Development and Operations, Amaranta Thompson, the Director of Fundraising and Corporate Relations will be expected to oversee the development and management of the Fundraising and Corporate Relations Team. You will develop a caseload of donor prospects and set out and execute strategies for solicitation of these prospects in line with IWI's overall vision. This individual will also be expected to work independently and to be self-motivated in initiating contacts with potential donors and raising IWI's Profile. He/she will also be expected to create and implement strategies for cultivation, solicitation and closure, and set and achieve annual fundraising and activity goals.

Responsibilities:

Corporate Relations and Fundraising Department:

  • You will be in charge of developing and carrying out a strategy for the our fundraising activities
  • Ongoing line-management of all departmental staff
  • Supervise and manage the research into fundraising opportunities and the identification of new sources of funding
  • Supervision of the preparation of grant applications
  • Manage supplies of all fundraising materials to support income generation.
  • Manage the financial resources of the department
  • To lead and appraise member of the team, setting targets for team members to ensure that goals are achieve in a timely manner according to strategy
  • Recruit staff where appropriate
  • Ensure a smooth running fundraising team

Donor Communications:

  • Supervise the processing of all donations and grant payments and the filling systems for this information
  • Supervise all communications with donors ensuring that material sent out is appropriate and sent in a timely manner
  • Monitor the editing of the fundraising pages on the website
  • Coordinate with the communications  and events teams to coordinate fundraising campaigns and events when necessary
  • Manage the writing of reports for donors

General

  • Interact and communicate effectively with Operations Director, Executive Director, other site personnel and research participants as well as meet with the trustee fundraising committee when necessary
  • Undertake any other ad hoc tasks as requested by IWI management
  • Comply with all the rules and regulations as applicable to assigned duties
Qualifications

Person Specification:

Essential

  • Masters in relevant field
  • Previous experience in and NGO preferably in a fundraising capacity
  • Able to determine how best to develop and maintain effective relationships with corporate partners and determine when and how a corporation can be successfully solicited for a gift.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well to, and understand the needs and interests of corporations in order to develop relationships between them and IWI.
  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas.
  • The position requires the ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle.
  • Able to work under pressure of deadlines and fundraising objectives
  • Ability to work independently and organise own work
  • Initiative and self-motivation
  • Excellent communication skills with colleagues and especially direct line manager
  • Good team worker
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required
  • Excellent IT skills; comfortable and confident enough with computers to be able to adapt to and use different data entry and programme management software packages as well as Microsoft Office, Skype, Gmail and other online communication software
  • The desire to grow with/within the organisation and promote its development

Desirable

  • Previous experience in fundraising
  • Previous experience of staff management

Time Commitment: The minimum commitment is an average of 20 hours per week including a weekly one on one meeting with President and Director of Development and Operations, Amaranta Thompson.
