Integrated Contraception & Sexual Health Services

Based at Lime Tree Clinic, Brookfield's Hospital, 351 Mill Road, Cambridge, CB1 3DF

This is an extremely exciting time to be working within iCaSH Cambridgeshire.  We are looking for a motivated & enthusiastic Clinical Nurse Specialist, with a strong team-work ethic to join our team in Cambridge.

You will be a NMC Registered Nurse or  a NMC Registered Midwife with a nationally recognised qualification in  Sexual Health and or Contraception  (i.e DFSRH/ BASHH STIF) and a Letter of Competence in Intra Uterine Technique or willingness to undertake this training.

You will also have recent experience of working in sexual health (Contraception, GUM or equivalent), and ability to demonstrate competency in supply of treatments by Patient Group Directions (PGDs) & be able to work autonomously.

Clinic hours are Monday-Friday 30 hours per week and may include one late night to 8pm.

To work within iCaSH offering advice and treatments/procedures for patients who require SRH services.

To support training and education to professionals, students and other agencies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Cambridgeshire Community Services deliver iCaSH services across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Milton Keynes, Peterborough and Norfolk. Our iCaSH services were inspected by the CQC on 30th August 2019, and rated as OUTSTANDING. 

iCaSH Cambridgeshire deliver Level 3 Contraception and GU services, along with an Outreach service.

Our clinic is located in Cambridge, and we work  closely with our sister clinics in Huntingdon and Wisbech , serving a community from a wide range of backgrounds.  The team work closely together to respond to the variety of needs our clients present with.

The successful applicant will:

To independently assess, plan, treat and evaluate complex programmes of care, with the use of Patient Group Directions (PGDs), or a non-medical prescribing (NMP), qualification.

 To practice as a prescriber, if the post-holder has a non-medical prescribing qualification.

 To communicate, describe and explain clinical, testing and treatment processes, in language to suit the patient group/audience.

 To perform SRH examinations and procedures as clinically indicated/required.

 To interpret and deliver test results, providing advice, appropriate treatment, signposting, and follow-up as required.

 To ensure patients understand the importance on any medical treatment and follow up requirements.

 To provide effective partner notification supporting the attendance, testing and treatment of partners at risk, in line with local and national guidance and policy documents. 

 To record appropriate partner notification data to enable audit, evaluation, and planning of services.

 To deliver an effective and appropriate results management process, in line with local guidance.

 To perform phlebotomy as required in accordance with Trust and service guidelines.  

 To administer vaccines and injections when clinically appropriate.

 To assess patients and provide appropriate contraceptive advice, consultation, and choice of method in a timely manner, inclusive of people with complex needs.

 To provide Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC), pre-assessment consultations and appointments in a timely manner.

 To fit and remove LARC when appropriately trained, or undertake training where required.

 To support patients in identifying and reducing any risks taken within their sexual behaviours.

 To provide assessment and a safe, non-judgemental environment, enabling patients to ask questions and discuss any concerns, providing appropriate signposting and/or referral.

To record interventions accurately, concisely, and contemporaneously in patient clinical records, in line with both local and national guidance and policies.

 To be competent in the management of young people and vulnerable adults, working within Fraser Guidelines and mental capacity legislation, liaising with the multi-disciplinary team, CCS, and local safeguarding teams/services as appropriate.

Communication 

Be conversant with the roles of all the staff within the service and with other colleagues internal or external to the organisation.

Adapt communication and language to suit patient group/audience. Working with partner agencies and utilising a wide range of platforms, methods and tools to include face to face, telephone and video consultation.

To establish good working relationships with colleagues and all key stakeholders.

To liaise with and exchange information with other Sexual Health Services, professionals, and partner agencies, as relevant for the management of patients.

Work collaboratively with all CCS iCaSH Services to ensure a standardised approach.

Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team to promote efficient patient care.

Contribute to effective communication, data, and information management within the team.

Support the correct storage of patient's records as per the Trust 'Records Management Policy'.

Liaise with other services as necessary for the co-ordination of patient care and the smooth    running of the department.

Ensure that exposure to sensitive, confidential information, is dealt with in line with organisational information governance policies and procedures.

Maintain databases as required by the role, for example the patient electronic record system.

Work under direction to support the process of audit and the improvement of information quality in relation to electronic records held within the department.

Ensure accurate record keeping in line with Trust and national standards. Support timely and accurate data entry and audit for performance and quality reporting.

Maintain a thorough knowledge of and adherence to the full range of policies / procedures and guidelines relevant to iCaSH and the Trust.

Welcome visitors and patients, providing assistance, support and information where required.

Maintain good communication with other staff, patients and visitors including front of house/reception and answering the telephone in a courteous and professional manner.

Actively participate in multidisciplinary training, meetings, and events.

Signpost clients to other services where appropriate.

Ensure that all organisational wide communication is accessed and adhered to accordingly via the account. 

Budgetary Responsibility 

Authorised signatory where required.

Contribute to the financial delivery and sustainability of the department objectives.

Support with stock control and ordering as required.

People Management

Responsible for day-to-day supervision, line management and development of identified staff within the iCaSH service as directed.

Maintain own professional development and requirement to take part in appraisal and supervision process.

Participate in clinical audit, service development and appropriate research projects.

Clinical and Practice Governance

Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff/records and information in line with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), requirements. 

Any data that is taken/shared must be undertaken with regard to the Trust Information Governance (IG) Strategy and Framework and Information Security policy.

The post holder must adhere to the Trust risk assessment and risk management processes.

The post holder must adhere to Trust Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures.

It is a condition of your employment that you are currently registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and it is your responsibility to maintain your professional registration and any supplementary registrations.

Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by CCS NHS Trust.

The post holder must participate in clinical and safeguarding audits as required.

Provide patients and their families /carers with information on standards they should expect from the team.

Participate in clinical/management supervision on a regular basis.

The post holder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness process' for their team.
