Assistant Support Worker

About Us:
Overworld AMP is a pioneering, state-of-the-art Independent Alternative Provision dedicated to meeting the needs of neurodivergent young people. We've created a space where our young people feel understood, empowered, and able to grow through the activities they love most. We blend structured learning with engaging activities, helping every young person develop skills, confidence, and wellbeing.
We are now recruiting Assistant Support Workers who are enthusiastic, patient, and committed to helping young people succeed.
Our learners are aged 8–25 and present with a range of special educational and, in some cases, care needs. The majority have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). We operate across multiple sites on the Surrey–Hampshire borders, with our main site currently being developed into a registered school.
Interviews will take place in our current site in Camberley, but we will be moving to our new premises in Farnham, Surrey from 5th January 2026.
What You'll Be Doing
As an Assistant Support Worker, you'll play an active role in supporting young people throughout their day. No two days are the same, but your responsibilities will include:
Gaming-Based Activity Support
- Engaging young people through gaming sessions, applied learning challenges, and creative tasks.
- Using in-game scenarios to embed education—literacy, numeracy, problem-solving, teamwork, communication—into the activities they already love.
- Helping facilitate esports sessions, creative media projects, or content creation (video editing, streaming, graphic design) where applicable.
Offsite Activities
You'll also support learners in the community, taking part in activities such as:
- Gym sessions
- Swimming
- Outdoor Learning
- Music lessons
- Nature walks
- Cooking
Embedded Education Approach
Education at Overworld AMP is built directly into the activities of the young people. Rather than traditional classroom lessons, learning happens organically:
- Maths through game statistics, crafting, and resource management in games like Minecraft
- English through storytelling, quest-building, communication, and reflection in social deduction games like Dungeons and Dragons or Nemesis
- Personal development through teamwork, roleplay, and strategy
- Creative and digital skills developed through project-based media tasks
You'll help guide these learning moments, supporting each young person in a way that feels natural and accessible.
What We're Looking For
Your attitude, empathy, and willingness to learn are what matter most. We would love to hear from you if you have:
- Experience working with neurodiverse young people (e.g. autism, ADHD)
- A full driving licence and willingness to transport/escort young people to offsite activities
- Basic gaming ability or familiarity with gaming environments
- A calm, supportive approach and good communication skills
Bonus Skills (not essential but appreciated):
- Creative media production (video editing, audio, graphic design, livestreaming)
- Esports coaching or competitive gaming experience
- Experience in youth work, mentoring, or alternative education
Why Join Us?
- Overworld is a genuinely unique and rewarding work environment
- We offer training and professional development in alternative education and neurodiversity
- Overworld comprises of a creative, supportive team who care deeply about the young people we work with
- The role of Assistant Support Worker offers the chance to use your hobbies and interests to make a real difference
Salary:
- Working wage as directed by the Gov.UK
Safeguarding:
Overworld AMP Limited is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We follow the NCPCC's Safer Recruitment Guidance. All offers of employment will be subject to the receipt of a minimum of two satisfactory references where practically possible. One of the references must be from your current employer and/or your teacher/tutor. Successful applicants will also be subject to an enhanced DBS check at a minimum. It is a criminal offence for any person who is disqualified (or barred) from working with children to attempt to apply for (or accept) a position within an educational organisation.
How to Apply:
Submit your CV and a short cover letter explaining why you'd be a great fit for Overworld AMP. Please ensure you tell us why you love gaming and what games you play.
