About Opticall
Opticall is an NHS-approved home visiting health service established in 2009. We proudly support over 400 care homes across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Milton Keynes, and North West London. Our mission is to deliver person-centred care directly to residents in the comfort of their homes, ensuring no one misses out on essential health support.
We are Dementia Friends accredited and committed to excellence, collaboration, and compassionate care. As we expand our services to include specialist ear and hearing care, we're seeking a skilled clinician to join our growing team and help transform the lives of vulnerable adults.
The Role
Join our specialist team delivering person-centred ear care and hearing services directly to care home residents who cannot easily access high-street clinics. You'll combine clinical excellence with compassionate, dementia-aware care, helping vulnerable adults maintain their hearing health and independence in familiar, comfortable environments.
This is a rewarding domiciliary role where you'll work autonomously whilst being fully supported by our experienced clinical leadership team and central operations hub.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence
Perform safe, effective ear wax removal using microsuction, irrigation, or manual techniques in line with best practice and infection control standards
Conduct hearing screenings, interpret results, and facilitate appropriate onward referrals when clinically indicated
Maintain meticulous clinical records compliant with GDPR and healthcare documentation requirements
Person-Centred Care
Adapt your approach for residents with dementia or cognitive impairments, prioritising dignity, comfort, and safety
Communicate clearly with residents, families, and care staff about procedures, results, and recommendations
Support care teams through awareness sessions on ear health, hygiene, and hearing support strategies
Operational Excellence
Plan efficient domiciliary schedules and routes whilst maintaining equipment to clinical standards
Build collaborative relationships with care home partners through professional, responsive service delivery
Uphold safeguarding standards for vulnerable adults in accordance with current legislation and organisational policies
Professional Development
Engage in regular CPD covering ear care, infection control, and dementia-aware practice
Contribute to service quality improvement and clinical governance
Essential Requirements
Professional Credentials
Registered healthcare professional (Nurse, Audiologist, Hearing Aid Dispenser, or trained Ear Care Practitioner)
Accredited ear wax removal training with practical, patient-based competency assessment
UK professional body registration (HCPC, NMC, RCCP, or equivalent)
Enhanced DBS check (required pre-employment)
Experience & Skills
Demonstrable experience (or genuine commitment) working with older adults, particularly those with dementia or complex needs, in care or domiciliary settings
Hearing screening/audiometry competency with understanding of referral thresholds
Valid UK driving licence and reliable vehicle access
Desirable Qualifications
Level 2/3 Certificate in Health and Social Care
Familiarity with electronic clinical systems (e.g. WriteUpp, Cliniko)
Current infection control, safeguarding, and first aid certification
Compassionate, adaptable communication style suited to vulnerable populations
Compliance & Quality
Service delivery adheres to CQC registration requirements for treatment of disease, disorder, or injury. Ongoing commitment to best practice, infection control, and patient safety is essential.
