Overall Job Purpose:

As a Claims Assistant within our European Syndicate, you will play a key role in delivering a high-quality claims handling and advisory service. Reporting to the team's Claims Manager, you'll support one of the Syndicate's dedicated claims teams and work closely with Members across Europe.

This position offers exposure to a diverse portfolio of claims involving various liabilities and provides the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in underwriting, loss prevention, and legal functions. It's an excellent entry point into the world of P&I insurance, offering valuable experience within one of the leading International Group P&I Clubs.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • To handle assigned claims in accordance with company procedures, provide advice on claims related issues and identify the need for loss prevention activity.
  • To promote the relationship between the Club and existing Members for which the Claims team is responsible.
  • To ensure that all electronic correspondence, whether received or sent, relating to claim files assigned to the individual is promptly and correctly filed in accordance with the agreed working practices and to maintain and keep updated such e-files.
  • To contribute to the continuous development of company procedures and systems.
  • To produce relevant articles for inclusion in Club publications.
  • To support the Syndicate Underwriting objectives.
  • To carry out any other duties that are within the scope of personal skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
  • To attend appropriate training and to develop relevant knowledge and skills.
  • To perform any other ad hoc duties as required.

Person Specification:

  • Educated to Degree standard or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable understanding of P&I Insurance would be highly desirable but not essential.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in dealing with insurance claims matters, would be desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, including negotiating, presenting, and reporting (written and verbal
  • Ability to build and maintain effective business relationships at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Highly organised, motivated, and enthusiastic with an excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to deliver high quality work within agreed timeframes to and prioritise individual workload.
  • Proactive and able to use own initiative.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.
