Are you an experienced civil engineering estimator looking for a dynamic role within a growing Scottish business? We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Estimator or Senior Estimator to join our team, working on a diverse range of rail and civil infrastructure projects.

About Us:
Our Scotland business unit is involved in a variety of projects, including small civil works within our Civils Asset Management framework, large-scale rail infrastructure projects, and non-rail civil engineering infrastructure. We operate in a fast-paced environment, delivering projects across sectors such as bridges, tunnels, stations, embankments, flood defences, and more. Our work includes tendered projects, frameworks, and maintenance contracts with Network Rail and other clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review tender documentation for completeness and flag concerns.
  • Generate detailed quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare and issue sub-contract and material enquiries, collaborating with the administration team.
  • Analyse quotations from sub-contractors and suppliers, normalising data for comparison.
  • Use first principles estimating techniques, benchmarking against historical data and project norms.
  • Coordinate with bid team members—including planners and project managers—to define scope, resources, and delivery approach.
  • Contribute to the development of methodologies and bid strategies.
  • Attend bid meetings to discuss progress, risks, and resource planning.
  • Prepare accurate and comprehensive tender/price submissions, ensuring clarity and detail for client review.
  • Liaise with sub-contractors and suppliers to gather competitive quotations.
  • Support post-tender clarifications and handover to the commercial team if successful.
  • Participate in post-tender analysis to improve future estimating accuracy.

Candidate Profile:

  • Proven experience as an Estimator or Senior Estimator in civil engineering, ideally within rail or related sectors.
  • Strong first principles estimating skills.
  • Civil project experience, with knowledge of rail infrastructure being advantageous.
  • Familiarity with estimating software and proficient in Excel and Word.
  • Understanding of civil engineering construction processes, potentially with site-based or operational background.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary negotiable based on experience
  • Company car or allowance
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, increasing with service
  • Up to 3 volunteer days annually
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Life insurance
  • Westfield Health cash plan & rewards
