Locum Consultant in Transfusion Medicine (Until end of this financial year)
**Location: England, based at any of our NHSBT centres

Hours Per Week: 9 Programmed Activities**
Applications are invited for this exciting post with NHS Blood and Transplant. This is a national post, and the purpose is to provide clinical leadership in all aspects of Transfusion Medicine, including Patient Blood Management (PBM), red cell immunohaematology (RCI) and components.

The successful candidate will provide patient blood management expertise and give advice on appropriate blood and plasma products for clinical practice. They will work with consultants in transfusion medicine in the provision of advice to NHSBT's Blood Supply directorate, and also regionally and nationally to support the Regional Transfusion Committees and NHSBT's other clinical teams, as part of a wider consultant team. This will include supporting the Quality Assurance part of NHSBT's transfusion work.

They will actively contribute to the development of national clinical policy in respect to transfusion guidelines and recommendations and will also support the red cell immunology laboratories and components teams as required.

They will participate in daytime and out-of-hours on call rotas (by telephone) for transfusion medicine (patient-facing on call rota for NHSBT), and for RCI or Components.

NHSBT is the sole provider of blood components and organs for transplantation to the NHS as well as supplying tissues and haemopoietic stem cells for transplantation, therapeutic apheresis and immunohaematological diagnostics. NHSBT has a Research and Development programme in collaboration with leading academic centres.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Induction and post-CCT training in the specialist aspects of the role will be provided to candidates who can offer the essential core capabilities.

Qualifications And Training

  • You must be on the GMC Specialist Register with a licence to practise with the General Medical Council or be eligible for specialist registration within 6 months of interview.
