We are seeking a highly skilled and professional Freelance Albanian Interpreter to facilitate accurate and effective communication between English-speaking service providers and Albanian-speaking individuals in a variety of public and private sector settings throughout the Manchester and Greater Manchester area.

This is primarily a self-employed/freelance role offering flexible working hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpretation: Provide accurate and impartial interpretation between English and Albanian (and vice versa) in various settings, including face-to-face, telephone, and video remote interpreting.
  • Settings: Work across diverse environments such as the NHS, hospitals, GP surgeries, Local Authorities (e.g., Social Services, Housing), Police, Probation, legal settings, and other public/private organisations.
  • Techniques: Utilise appropriate interpreting techniques, primarily consecutiveinterpreting (and potentially simultaneous or sight translation of documents, depending on the setting).
  • Confidentiality: Maintain absolute confidentiality and adhere strictly to the Code of Conduct and professional standards for interpreters.
  • Liaison: Effectively liaise between the service user and service provider to ensure complete understanding and successful communication outcomes.
  • Cultural Awareness: Demonstrate a deep understanding of the cultural nuances in both English and Albanian-speaking communities to ensure culturally sensitive and context-appropriate communication.
  • Professionalism: Manage assignments professionally, including excellent time management, punctuality, and administrative tasks related to job completion.

Essential Requirements

  • Fluency: Native or near-native fluency in Albanian and English (both written and verbal).
  • Right to Work: Must possess the unrestricted right to work as self-employed in the UK.
  • Location: Willingness to travel and work on-site within Manchester and the wider Greater Manchester area.
  • DBS/CRB Check: Must hold or be willing to obtain an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate, as much of the work involves vulnerable people and confidential information.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience (A Plus Point)

  • Formal Qualification: A recognised interpreting qualification is highly advantageous, such as:
  • Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI)
  • Community Interpreting Qualification (Level 3 or above)
  • Bilingual Skills Certificate
  • Degree in Translation, Interpreting, or Languages
  • Professional Registration: Registration with a relevant professional body, such as the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI) or the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL), is a significant plus.
  • Previous Experience: Proven previous experience as a professional interpreter, particularly in public service settings (e.g., health, legal, local government).
  • Terminology Knowledge: Familiarity with common terminology used in legal, health, and local authority contexts.

Job Types: Part-time, Freelance

Pay: £15.00-£20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 2 per week
