The Associate Director will form part of the Special Risks Analysis leadership team with development responsibility for five analysts and researchers. Responsibilities will also include analytical product development, commercial responsibility for generating, scoping, and delivering complex consultancy projects, ensuring team KPIs are met and quality reviewing analysis to ensure client-facing reports meet Control Risks' highest standards. The Associate Director will represent Control Risks as an expert on global and local kidnapping and extortion trends

Requirements
What You'll Do:

Leadership

  • Work with the Director, Special Risks Analysis to ensure the strategic development of the team.
  • Responsibility for the smooth running of SRA.
  • Contribute to the line management of the analytical team, helping them to develop their technical capabilities as analysts and their subject-matter expertise.
  • Quality review and provide developmental feedback on written analysis produced by team members.
  • Through the Analysts, ensure timely delivery of the team's market-facing analysis, such as briefings to key partners such as Hiscox, quarterly and monthly publications, and contributions to Seerist.

Knowledge Management

  • Maintain subject matter expertise about kidnapping and extortion trends globally in order to confidently represent Control Risks to clients.
  • Assist with maintaining Control Risks' unique database of kidnap-for-ransom incidents in a timely manner to uphold the integrity of our data.
  • Demonstrate Control Risks' leadership in the field of kidnap analysis by presenting the topic in innovative ways and adopting new approaches to analysis.

Operational Analysis

  • Project manage complex operational cases that require analysis from multiple departments across the Control Risks network of offices.
  • Provide holiday cover or surge capacity for regional analysts in support of our operational commitments, e.g. provide immediate analytical support for consultants when Control Risks is notified of a new incident affecting our clients. This will include occasional need to work out of hours.

Bespoke consulting

  • Deliver complex consultancy pieces and project manage multi-jurisdictional reports to ensure a high level of quality, consistency and timeliness. This will include liaison with other teams across the breadth of Control Risks services.
  • Assist our clients by proposing and developing complex tailored solutions for our clients.

Business development and marketing

  • Build effective relationships with analyst teams throughout Control Risks.
  • Help to grow SRA's consulting business by delivering on team strategy. Drive development of subscription products including live dashboards to expand SRA's consulting offering to clients.
  • Contribute to the development of new and compelling client deliverables; innovate and expand new and existing revenue streams.
  • Support our insurance partners with business development opportunities, including organising and providing relevant reports, presentations or briefings.
  • Contribute to company-wide promotional publications, press releases and business development initiatives as necessary.
Who You Are:
  • Significant, relevant and recent experience in an analytical role.
  • Experience of delivering security analysis, preferably for multiple regions (Africa Middle East, Asia or Latin America).
  • Experience of quality reviewing the written work of colleagues.
  • Proven track record of delivering against business development targets or demonstrable commercial experience.
  • Exceptional native fluency in written and verbal English.
  • Ability to work at pace in a high-pressure environment.
  • Exceptional project management skills.
  • Experience of analysing large data sets, including through use of software such as PowerBI.
  • Excellent time management, organisation and prioritisation skills.
  • Strong verbal presentation skills.
  • Experience of using innovative presentation formats and graphics.
  • Ability to write clearly, concisely and authoritatively.
  • A relevant degree, or proven experience in an equivalent field.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.

Essential

  • Excellent verbal and written English
  • Ability to carry out research in Spanish or French
  • Developed research skills
  • Competence in the Office 365 suite of platforms, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to understand and summarise large amounts of information
  • Ability to work with a team and on own initiative

Preferred

  • Knowledge of adjacent thematic issues such as organised crime or terrorism.
  • Previous experience of providing analysis in a commercial context.
