Barnstaple, Devon, United Kingdom Fitzgerald Full time £24,000 - £42,000 per year

Job Type:
Full-time or part time (minimum 30 hours per week)

Salary:
£30,000 - £35,000 per annum FTE (depending on experience)

We offer a competitive salary package aligned with current market rates for this role. The final offer will reflect your skills, experience, and qualifications, alongside our commitment to internal equity.

Location: North Devon Region or Exeter

This is a hybrid role where you'll mainly work from home, with travel for meetings.

About us

We're a full-service HR consultancy that partners with clients to help their people and businesses thrive. Sometimes we act as their in-house HR team, sometimes as an extension of their existing people team — but always as a trusted partner that genuinely cares.

We believe people are the foundation of every business's success. Our job is to help clients create workplaces where everyone can do their best work.

What you'll be doing

As our Finance and Operations Administrator, you'll play a key role in keeping the heart of Fitzgerald running smoothly. You'll support the Finance and Operations team with the day-to-day processes that keep everything organised, accurate and on track. From credit control and payroll support to systems, HR and client administration, you'll be right at the centre of the work that helps the business operate effectively.

You'll prepare documents, maintain records, support financial and compliance reporting, and help keep our systems up to date. You'll also play an important part in keeping communication flowing, from responding to internal queries to supporting clients with onboarding, timesheets and essential information.

This means you'll:

  • Support credit control activities and bookkeeping tasks, helping us keep cashflow healthy and records accurate.
  • Prepare invoices, expenses and financial statements for review, making sure everything reconciles properly.
  • Assist with financial reporting and compliance, producing clear and timely information.
  • Help with routine finance queries and data updates.
  • Assist with payroll preparation for Fitzgerald and our clients, updating payroll records cleanly and accurately.
  • Liaise with clients, accountants and system providers to support smooth payroll processes.
  • Keep employee and client records up to date across our systems, including setting up new starters and new clients.
  • Support colleagues with systems queries and help maintain data accuracy across internal platforms.
  • Provide HR administration support, preparing documents, posting job roles, scheduling interviews and helping with onboarding.
  • Produce timesheet information for billing and prepare terms of service and schedules of work for review.
  • Support operational processes, team inboxes and general business administration to help keep everything running smoothly.
  • Pitch in with wider projects, logistics and day-to-day tasks so colleagues have what they need to deliver great work.

No two days will look exactly the same, but every day you'll make sure the details are right and the work keeps moving.

About you

You'll bring experience in finance, payroll or operations administration, and you'll be confident working with numbers, data and detailed information. You'll have supported bookkeeping, invoicing or credit control processes before, and you'll understand how important accuracy and organisation are in a busy operational role. You'll also have some experience supporting payroll, whether that's preparing information, updating records or coordinating with clients and system providers.

You'll be someone who naturally keeps things tidy and running smoothly. You'll enjoy organising, prioritising and planning ahead, and you'll be comfortable juggling different tasks without losing sight of the detail. Strong communication skills are important too. You'll be clear, friendly and confident; whether you're responding to queries or creating documents others rely on.

Relationships matter to you. You'll work fairly and openly with others, building trust through being reliable and approachable. You'll be curious, keen to learn, and willing to pitch in where needed so the team can deliver great work. You'll also be comfortable using technology, from Outlook and Excel to online systems and platforms, and you'll hold a UK driving licence so you can travel when required.

Above all, you'll take pride in doing things properly. You'll care about quality and accuracy and you'll play your part in helping the business operate smoothly every single day.

The Perks:

We're probably biased, but we think this role is exciting, interesting, fun, challenging, full of growth opportunities… we could go on. All that aside, we also offer:

  • Competitive salary, £30,000 - £35,000 FTE
  • 25 days' annual leave to start, rising to 27 after one year and 29 after two years, plus bank holidays
  • Career qualifications supported and paid for where relevant with progression and development opportunities
  • Monthly homeworking allowance and all equipment provided
  • Flexible working patterns to make sure you have a good balance between your work and home life
  • Pension scheme options (including salary sacrifice) and 4% employer pension contributions, with a minimum of 4% employee contributions
  • Life assurance at four times basic salary
  • Shopping discounts platform, flu vaccinations and technology and cycle to work salary sacrifice schemes
  • Medicash health cash plan and wellbeing benefits (including EAP)
  • Enhanced family leave and twice yearly all staff get togethers
  • Unlimited remote GP appointments available 24/7
  • A growing, progressive business with people at its heart

you.

So if you want to learn something new or deepen your expertise, you do the work and we'll support you all the way. Because when you get better at what you do, so do we.

And when life throws curveballs - which it always will - we'll make sure you've got the flexibility and support you need. We understand that time to rest and recharge is important and we'll make sure you get it, along with a work/life balance that always treats you like an adult (and trusts you accordingly).

Because we want everyone here to play a big part in what comes next for Fitzgerald, to build our future, be involved in decisions, and be valued for your input.

We're Fitzgerald. We do work that works for you.
