Lower Hope Fruit Limited, part of the Lower Hope Farms group, is a leading soft and stone fruit grower and packer based in Herefordshire. Specialising in cherry production, we are known for our late English cherries from July to September. Our Grade A packhouse facility and modern packing lines ensure top-quality fruit is packed to daily orders for distribution to supermarkets nationwide.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role as a Trainee Grower located in Herefordshire. To aid with the management of the agronomic operations of the Fruit Department, as well as operating substrate irrigation systems, and seasonal/back-up spraying.
Growing Support
:
· Develop understanding of fertigation and relevant techniques using Agri-Tech data.
· Assist in creating Gate Keeper spray and fertigation plans; participate in monthly stock taking.
· Monitor pest and disease across the farm and crops (e.g. SWD, Codling moth, Spider mite).
· Organise deployment of biological products across the farm.
· Conduct weekly water testing across the farm.
· Provide practical support across all growing operations
Irrigation
:
· Oversee operation and maintenance of substrate irrigation rigs.
· Monitor work completed by seasonal irrigation technicians; ensure daily data (coir moisture, EC, pH, run-off) is uploaded to Agri-Tech app.
· Provide cover during seasonal staff days off for soil and substrate irrigation.
· Operate soil irrigation during off-peak periods, including rig and field maintenance.
· Share responsibility for mixing fertiliser for soil and substrate fertigation.
· Maintain accurate irrigation rig records; ensure upkeep, safety, and security of rigs and fertiliser stores.
Tractor and Machinery Driving:
· Operate large topper for weekly mowing.
· Assist with establishment of new orchard plantings and stewardship patches.
· Provide relief spray operations.
Handle apple haulage, including loading/unloading with telehandler/forklift
Support tunnel operations and machinery maintenance/repairs.
General
Participate in general fruit and estate work throughout the year.

Qualification:
· Full clean UK driving license
· Preferred, but training possible for the right candidates:
o Telehandler License
o Forklift License
o PA1 Safe Use of Pesticides
o PA3 Air Assisted Spraying
