Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated health visitor to provide strong clinical and operational leadership within Harrow's Integrated 0–19 Service. As Team Lead for the Health Visiting Service you will play a key role in shaping high-quality, family-centred services, supporting a skilled multidisciplinary team, and ensuring safe, effective delivery of the Healthy Child Programme. This role is ideal for a dynamic practitioner who is passionate about improving outcomes for children, young people and families across the community.

In order to be eligible for this post, applicants must be a qualified
Specialist Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) - Health Visiting.
Main duties of the job

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and operational management of the 0–19 Health Visiting team.
  • Support clinical supervision, workload management and safe, effective practice across the service.
  • Coordinate service delivery in line with local needs, national guidance and safeguarding requirements.
  • Lead staff recruitment, support performance management and enable continuous professional development.
  • Build strong working relationships with GPs, Local Authority, Family Hubs, Public Health and Voluntary Sectors.
  • Ensure compliance with CNWL policies, clinical governance standards and risk management processes.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Oversee staffing levels, team organisation and daily workflow to ensure safe, effective service delivery across homes and community venues.
  • Clinical Practice: Hold responsibility for a defined caseload as required, delivering advanced assessment and intervention, and supporting team members with complex clinical decision-making.
  • Safeguarding & Risk: Lead on child protection processes within the team, including assessments, reports, and participation in core groups and case conferences. Monitor and manage clinical and non-clinical risks in line with Trust policies.
  • Quality & Governance: Promote evidence-based practice, contribute to clinical audits and support continuous service improvement in line with Trust and national priorities.
  • Resource Management: Ensure responsible use of staffing, time and equipment, maintaining high standards of documentation and adherence to NMC and CNWL policies.
  • Service Improvement: Contribute to the development of innovative public health programmes, support clinical audit, and lead agreed projects aligned with CNWL and national priorities.
  • Education & Mentorship: Provide mentorship for students and contribute to staff development by fostering a positive learning environment and acting as a clinical role model
  • Communication & Partnership Working: Establish strong relationships with key partners and act as an advocate for families when required. Manage complaints, support shared learning and maintain clear, professional communication within and outside the team.

Education And Qualifications
Essential criteria

  • Specialist Community Public Health Nurse-Health Visiting
  • Evidence of continuing post registration education and training
  • Mentor training/experience

Desirable criteria

  • Mentorship Qualification
  • Postgraduate study

Experience
Essential criteria

  • Recent health visiting experience and up to date clinical practice
  • Experience of coordinating and leading multi-skilled teams
  • Experience of working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and inter-agency working. Ability to facilitate joint working practices
  • Experience in management of national performance targets, supporting organisational and business change.
  • Experience of undertaking comprehensive health assessments, planning, and implementing evidence-based programmes of care
  • Experience of teaching others and mentoring students
  • Experience of organising and managing own workload and that of others

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of innovative practice or project management.
  • Experience of line managing team members
  • Experience of developing clinical standards and protocols.

  • Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge of recent developments in public health nursing and health and social care legislation.
  • Current knowledge of safeguarding children's guidelines and relevant legal aspects
  • Knowledge of quality issues, the audit process and clinical governance
  • Able to delegate work effectively and safely, think creatively and prioritise in a busy ever-changing environment.
  • Knowledge of how equality and diversity can be implemented in practice
  • Knowledge of managing difficult situations and conflict resolution
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to demonstrate analytical and organisational skills with a clear understanding and knowledge of data analysis development and data management and interpretation
