Clinical Case Manager – PSW

Cambridge CB XB, United Kingdom NHS Full time £30,000 - £50,000 per year

The Professional Support and Wellbeing Service (PSW) is dedicated to supporting doctors fulfil their career potential and meet their training needs and expectations.

The PSW aim to support educators to identify early warning signs amongst their trainees, develop understanding of resilience and well-being amongst both trainees and educators, increase educator awareness of concerns amongst trainees and improve understanding of when and where to escalate these concerns. It is recognised that there are times when trainees would benefit from increased and specialist support, beyond that which their clinical and educational supervisor can provide.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of a Clinical Case Manager (CCM) within the PSW Clinical team. The successful candidate will work with a team of dedicated clinical and non-clinical staff within the PSW, including the Clinical Lead for the PSW.

The PSW is able to provide support for both trainees and their educators.

Key responsibilities will include:

meeting with trainees who have been triaged and allocated to them by the PSW team

participating in strategic/operational PSW meetings

promoting the PSW

Our work supports the NHS to deliver high quality services for patients and best value for taxpayers.

Our staff bring expertise across hundreds of specialisms — including clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial — enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.

We lead the NHS in England by:

Enabling local systems and providers to improve the health of their people and patients and reduce health inequalities

Making the NHS a great place to work, where our people can make a difference and achieve their potential

Working collaboratively to ensure our healthcare workforce has the right knowledge, skills, values and behaviours to deliver accessible, compassionate care

Optimising the use of digital technology, research, and innovation

Delivering value for money

Earlier this year, the Government announced that NHS England will gradually merge with the Department of Health and Social Care, leading to full integration. The aim is to create a smaller, more strategic centre that reduces duplication and eliminates waste.

If successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the recruitment process.

This role will be an integral member of the PSW. The post holder will need to demonstrate:

knowledge and experience of working with doctors/dentists/pharmacists in training who have differing needs

ability to sensitively manage complexity and uncertainty

excellent communication and interpersonal skills and;

demonstrate the values of the NHS in all avenues of their work.

The post holder will be expected to commit to 2 sessions on average per week. This will be an agreed and fixed day(s). We would consider two applicants working one session each, or one applicant working both sessions.

This is a varied role that provides the opportunity to work closely with senior educators and the administration team at NHSE.

You can find further details about the job, organisational structure, recruitment profile, expected outcomes and benefits information in the attached Job Description and other supporting documents.

Secondments

Applicants from within the NHS will be offered on a secondment basis only, agreement should be obtained from their employer prior to submitting the application.

Please note this vacancy is only open to Secondary Care Consultants. We are currently only able to recruit to posts until 31st October 2026, with potential to be extended to the full tenure period of 3 years subject to confirmation.
