About the role

The Building Safety Officer plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and compliance of high-rise and complex buildings across the Group in line with evolving legislation and regulatory requirements. You will support the Property Services team in delivering robust fire risk assessment and audit programmes, while contributing to strategies that strengthen resident engagement on building safety.

Who we're looking for?

Experience

  • Managing fire risk assessments within social housing or a similar environment
  • Undertaking health and safety audits, inspections and implementing findings
  • Strong customer focus and an understanding of the impact to services
  • Managing / working with housing management systems and/or compliance databases
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience of providing customer service in a demanding, public facing environment

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of current housing legislation and wider sector issues
  • Wider knowledge and understanding of property management and building regulations, including: CDM, asbestos, electrical regulations
  • Residential fire safety and a basic working knowledge of LACORS, Fire Safety Guidance on Purpose Built Block of Flats and Guidance on Specialised Housing as well as the requirements of the Fire Safety Act and Building Safety Act.
  • Understanding of project management principles and ability to contribute effectively to cross functional projects.
  • Proficiency in preparing clear, accurate, and structured reports for compliance, safety, and operational purposes.
  • Desirable to hold or be working towards a nationally recognised fire qualification.
  • Desirable to have professional membership of a safety body.
  • Desirable to hold a NEBOSH Fire Certificate or similar qualification.
