Breadth of Responsibility:
The Construction Logistics Coordinator coordinates material distribution within assigned construction areas, ensuring smooth delivery from the IDPA to construction areas. They act as the primary contact for consignment teams, G4S checkpoints, and traffic marshallers, ensuring logistics align with project timelines and construction needs. Within their responsibilities scope they must:
- Oversee end-to-end logistics operations across assigned construction areas, ensuring materials are distributed effectively from the IDPA to Construction Logistics Spaces.
- Coordinate material movements, ensuring smooth delivery to designated work areas.
- Act as the primary point of contact for consignment acceptance teams, G4S checkpoints, and traffic marshallers within Construction Logistics Spaces.
- Ensure seamless integration of logistics operations with project timelines, collaborating closely with the broader construction teams.
- Collaborate with Site Operations and Delivery Coordination Teams to define and implement logistics strategies for the assigned areas, ensuring efficient movement of materials.
- Lead the development and execution of logistics solutions that align with project objectives and industry best practices.
- Continuously improve logistics processes to manage risks, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure sustainability in material distribution operations.
- Serve as the primary logistics point of contact for internal teams and external vendors involved in the distribution process.
- Monitor and evaluate delivery timelines, safety compliance, and traffic management performance.
- Use data-driven analysis to identify areas for process improvement.
- Provide regular updates to the Construction Logistics Lead, highlighting successes, risks, and areas requiring further attention.
Challenges and Problem Solving:
- The Construction Logistics Coordinator will address a variety of logistical challenges within their area, including:
- Escalate disruptions and coordinate resolution on behalf of the area Construction Logistics Lead
- Identifying bottlenecks or unforeseen obstacles in material flow and resolving them swiftly.
- Ensuring compliance with safety, security, and environmental regulations while maintaining alignment with construction priorities and milestones.
Decision-Making:
The Construction Logistics Coordinator is responsible for making timely decisions or escalations to ensure the efficient flow of materials across construction areas. They resolve logistical situational challenges and review logistics data to identify potential issues or delays and take corrective actions to mitigate disruptions. While collaborating with various teams, the coordinator ensures that all decisions align with safety, regulatory requirements, and project timelines, balancing operational efficiency with risk management.
Principal Accountabilities
- Logistics Coordination: Oversee the end-to-end logistics process for material distribution within assigned construction areas, ensuring timely and efficient delivery from the IDPA to work areas.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for consignment acceptance teams, G4S checkpoints, traffic marshallers, and external vendors, ensuring smooth coordination of logistics operations.
- Performance Monitoring: Track and evaluate delivery timelines, compliance with safety regulations, and traffic management performance, providing regular updates to the Construction Logistics Lead.
- Issue Resolution: Identify and address logistics bottlenecks, disruptions, or delays, taking corrective actions in real-time to maintain material flow and project timelines.
- Process Improvement: Continuously analyse logistics processes and implement improvements to increase operational efficiency, reduce risks, and ensure alignment with project goals.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Construction organisation and Programme Logistics and HPC Logistics incl. 3PL Partner, and other stakeholders to ensure logistics are aligned with construction milestones and project timelines.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate should have a background in logistics, with an understanding of distribution logistics, route management, and traffic control within construction environments. They should be proficient in capturing data to enable effective monitoring of logistics performance. Good communication skills are essential to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external vendors, ensuring smooth coordination of logistics operations.
The candidate should possess strong practical problem-solving abilities, allowing them to identify and resolve logistical challenges quickly, and have a solid understanding of the importance of safety and regulatory standards. Relevant experience in logistics or materials management within construction or regulated industries, as well as familiarity with logistics software tools, is highly desirable.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Logistics Expertise: Understanding of distribution logistics, route management, and traffic control within construction environments.
- Data Analysis: Proficient in capturing data (e.g. using Excel) to monitor logistics performance and inform decision-making.
- Communication: Good communication skills to effectively coordinate with internal teams and external vendors, ensuring smooth logistics operations.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve practical logistical challenges promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines.
- Risk Management: Knowledge of safety and regulatory standards and the importance of compliance
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in logistics, supply chain, or materials management, ideally in construction or infrastructure projects.
- Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH) are advantageous.
- Experience in regulated industries (nuclear, aerospace, or rail) is desirable.
